When Square Enix and Nintendo announced Project “Octopath Traveler” for Nintendo Switch, they just mentioned that the game is being developed by the team behind Bravely Default, but they did not provide details.
Today they opened the official Facebook page for the team, and it identifies Tomoya Asano as the Producer at the helm.
Ayano-san worked as a Producer on Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, Bravely Default: Praying Brage, Bravely Second: End Layer, Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, Final Fantasy III for 3DS and Final Fantasy IV for 3DS. He also was a Project Manager on Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions.
Asano-san also posted an introductory message:
This is Square Enix producer Tomoya Asano.
It’s my pleasure to finally announce our newest project, the fully original role-playing game Octopath Traveler!
While we can’t reveal any specific details quite yet (keep an eye out for promotional media in the near future), we’d like to share with you a behind-the-scenes look at the development process in the meantime.
A long road lies ahead of us, but we hope that you’ll come along for the journey!
While the facebook page did not include any further detail on the team, it did come with an illustration and a few screenshots, and the illustration brings the signature of Naoki Ikushima, who worked as a background and monster designer on Bravely Default.
While the wording of Asano-san’s message appears to imply that the game might still be a long way off, at least the presence of a message in English seems to hint that it might be west-bound.
