In arrivo in primavera.:.bip:Sega announced today during an event held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, near Tokyo, that Phantasy Star Online 2 will finally launch on PS4 in spring 2016.
There will also be a beta test in February, even if the exact date is still unknown.
In addition to this, we also learn new information about the Episode 4 expansion, that will bring the Summoner class. Summoners will fight with the help of a pet, and there will be pet breeding and training mechanics.
Character creation and visual customization will also be improved, including the ability to change hairstyle and tattoos everywhere, some body proportions, the angle and size of accessories and more. A new fashion system named “layer wear” will allow players to combine layers of clothing to create different outfits.
Unfortunately the announcements are related only to the Japanese market, as Sega never really fulfilled the promise of releasing the game in the west. We’re still waiting, Sega.
http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/01/17/ps4-version-of-phantasy-star-online-2-gets-japanese-release-date-closed-beta-detailed/Sega announced today that Phantasy Star Online 2 will be released on PS4 in Japan on April 20th, 2016.
In addition to this, there will be a closed beta limited to 50,000 testers, which will start on February 25th and end on March 6th. Participating in the closed beta will grant in-game bonuses depending on the level reached (unlocking at level 10, 20 and 30).
Registration will be open between January 25th and February 15th. In order to register, you will have to get a free ticket on the Japanese PlayStation Store.
In addition to this, the PS4 edition (which will be free to play like all the other versions) will also get a retail launch including multiple bonuses at the same time as the Reborn:Episode 4 expansion, that will also be launched for PC and PS Vita on the same day.
Cross-play with PC and PS Vita will be supported, allowing players to share characters between all platforms. PlayStation Plus won’t be required to play, as usual with free to play games.
Of course, we’re still waiting for a western version, which Sega West promised about an eon ago, and never delivered nor officially canceled.
