Star Wars Jedi: Survivor hasn’t launched yet, but the game’s director is already talking about the desire for a third game in the franchise.
Speaking in an interview with IGN, director Stig Asmussen of Respawn Entertainment said that his team has been discussing the series’ future since before the first game was released in 2019. Specifically, the length of Cal Kestis’ story and where to take it.
“We were already talking about the second game,” Asmussen said about talks before Fallen Order launched. “I mean, frankly, we were talking beyond. And these are conversations that, when we’re breaking this story with Lucasfilm, it’s like: ‘Well, where are we going with the second game?'”
He continued: “I always wanted to see this as a trilogy. How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?”
Should a third game in the series happen, Asmussen said that the game will likely use Unreal Engine 5. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was built in Unreal Engine 4.
“I’m not going to say it’s going to be easy,” he said. “I mean, we have a lot of proprietary things that we’ve warped the engine into doing what it does for Jedi right now, and we would have to retool some of that to get it to work on any new engine.”
