Benvenuti nel thread ufficiale dei The Games Awards 2018, la più conosciuta e chiacchierata cerimonia di premiazione annuale dedicata ai videogiochi. Nato nel 2014 da un'idea di Geoff Keighley, il format è l'erede degli Spike VideoGame Awards, altra creatura di Keighley terminata con l'edizione 2013 a seguito del disimpegno dell'emittente televisiva Spike TV. Nel corso della cerimonia, oltre le premiazioni, sono previsti annunci e trailer per giochi inediti e già annunciati.

Le nomination per ogni categoria sono state selezionate da 69 testate videoludiche ritenute di particolare rilevanza, ad eccezione delle categorie inerenti gli e-sport, per le quali le nomination sono state decise da una selezione delle testate specializzate nel mondo degli e-sport. La votazione per decretare i vincitori avviene su base mista, con il voto di una giuria (che incide nella misura del 90%) e del pubblico (che incide per il 10%). Il pubblico può votare, esprimendo un singolo voto per ogni categoria ogni 24 ore, registrandosi sul sito ufficiale dell'evento oppure attraverso i principali social network.
