Pachter!

Speaking with GamingBolt in a recent interview, Pachter said that the Switch’s hybrid concept isn’t one that gets a lot of use, and that the smart thing for Nintendo to do would be to drop the console side of things and turn the Switch into a purely handheld device.

“I don’t really understand the whole hybrid concept,” Pachter told GamingBolt. “I think that was something Iwata did to differentiate the Switch, and he wanted to have a console that could go back and forth from console to portable. But I don’t think most people play it in both modes, I would say that maybe 20% of Switch owners play both modes; and I think most Switch owners play it handheld only. So I honestly don’t understand the whole point of the hybrid. Who cares? Play it as a handheld.”

“And Nintendo isn’t that smart,” he continued, “so you never know what they will do next, but I think the smart thing would be to get rid of the Switch console and only have the Switch Lite, get rid of the docking station, get rid of playing on the TV; maybe offer a Fire Stick style dongle for those who do want to play it on the TV. But I just think that a portable-only Switch makes the most sense, it’s the cheapest to make, and they could make the screen nicer and the build quality better.”

EA's FIFA 21 has retained the No.1 spot in the UK physical charts, despite a 50% drop in sales week-on-week.

It's the third consecutive physical No.1 for the football game, although sales remain lower than last year. However, the game has performed much better as a digital download so far this year compared with the previous iteration.

It's a very quiet week for new boxed releases. As a result, Nintendo Switch games dominate once again. Animal Crossing: New Horizons holds No.2 (sales down 11% week-on-week), Minecraft on Switch is at No.3 (sales down 15%), Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is at No.4 (down 25%), Super Mario 3D All Stars is at No.5 (down 7%) and Ring Fit Adventure is at No.6 (down 14%). The drop in sales follows last week's spike due to the Amazon Prime Day sales.

The only new release in the Top 40 is Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the Necrodancer at No.37. The game was initially released last year as a digital-only music-based spin-off of the Zelda series, developed by indie studio Brace Yourself Games.

Things do pick up significantly from this point on. Next week sees the launch of Watch Dogs Legion from Ubisoft, plus the enhanced Nintendo Switch port of Pikmin 3, and then we move into November when two new games consoles join the market.

Here is the GfK Top Ten for the week ending October 24th:

Koei Tecmo shared their latest financial results earlier today, and it gave us an update on just how well-received Fairy Tail was. According to their report, the game has managed to move 310k units worldwide. That includes all platform sales combined.
