Conker's sarcastic compliment towards Batula's hairstyle, as well as quickly saying he said "nothing" when Count Batula demanded to know what Conker just said, is most likely a reference to a similar situation in The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror IV segment Bart Simpson's Dracula, where Homer quietly states as Count Burns was walking away that the hairdo makes the latter look "queer", causing Count Burns to angrily turn around and declare that he heard that remark, causing Homer to fearfully pin the blame on Bart. Also like Batula, Count Burns was based on Gary Oldman's performance as Dracula.

In a case for the video game, the first level has you giving Pepsi to a vending machine to prevent a riot from starting. Although played for humor in the game, a similar concept was played straight 18 years later in the Kendall Jenner Pepsi ad from 2017 with disastrous results.

If the protagonist has not entered Tartarus once within the first 10 days, upon returning to the Iwatodai Dormitory that evening, Mitsuru will confront and scold him/her for slacking off and forcibly bring him/her to Tartarus just before the first Full Moon Operation. She will also stop the protagonist from leaving until S.E.E.S has started exploring Block 1 of the tower.

The game was originally supposed to conclude with an Expansion Pack called Exalted March, which was to set up the sequel Dragon Age: Inquisition. It was also meant to end with the death of fan-favourite Varric. When Exalted March was cancelled during pre-production, the developers were forced to rework most of their plans into Inquisition itself. This ended up changing the direction they took Varric's character and he ended up surviving.

When using Mallow's Psychopath move on enemies, a brief blurb representing the target's thoughts will pop up. In the Japanese release, a large number of them are references to Japanese popular culture, nodding to works such as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Sailor Moon, Gundam, Fist of the North Star, Neon Genesis Evangelion, etc. In the English localization, most of these are either translated literally without accounting for the context, replaced with references to American popular culture (such as Madonna, Poltergeist II: The Other Side, and president Theodore Roosevelt), or otherwise completely rewritten.

According to Atsushi Inaba, he and his team were fans of Frank Miller's Sin City, inspiring the artistic direction for the game's graphics.

There is a cut location called Singing Mountain that was originally going to appear in the Prehistoric era. It also includes an unused song sharing the same name. The dungeon and accompanying song ended up being cut because the dungeon itself didn't contain much, nor did it advance the story.

The game was originally going to be titled "Polygon Fighter" during its prototype phase of development. The title was then changed to "Ninja Fighter" before finally settling on "Dead or Alive" because of the pressure Tecmo placed on the game's success.

When Logos attacks the party during the second mission of the game, one of the fiends that attacks will be a snake monster. Rikku starts the battle shouting "Snake, Snake, Snaaaakkkeee!" This phrase is a reference to the Metal Gear Solid series, where it is often shouted by one of the characters during Game Over screens.

The proper English versions of "Advanced Wind", "Only the Night Sky Knows" and "Wings" (the opening and ending themes respectively), was provided by none other than Jem herself, Samantha Newark. Unfortunately, her recording of the songs were never actually released, and can only be taken off the discs directly,
