Here's a few more tips:
Killing enemies either gives you loot directly or more commonly adds it to shop inventory. I wish there was some sort of prompt so you'd know if you were grinding for a certain spell or weapon that it's available for purchase.
Around the second region, you can buy accessories that give you a flat damage increase (+200 for the first one). When used with a weapon with random damage range, it merely increases the top end so you can still strike for a measly 40 damage on a 2,200 range attack.
Put that damage accessory on whatever case has Malafluxare (or the fixed damage version). Hitting all for 450 magical damage is a huge bump at where you're at in the game.
Ranged weapons like bows seem like they have a higher initial attack than fixed damage melee when you get them but get outclassed quickly. It's almost better to focus on hitting flying enemies with magic instead of ranged weapons. This may sound weird since most flying enemies have zero physical armor but that way all four party members can deal damage with magic instead.
You can go into negative gold. I ran into a treasure hunter rare enemy that stole 10,000 gold from me when I had only earned about 2k up to that point.
Every ten floors, you'll unlock a two-way teleporter that takes you back to Floor 00 in case you need to change party members or buy gear. There's a gun shop that isn't there in 00 and possibly more vendors throughout the dungeon.
Always map floors to 100%. The ability points you get go a long way towards equipping passive abilities, traversal skills, and even on demand heal/revive (in combat only).
Alrighty, played about 30 minutes / cleared 3 floors 100%. There's a single piece of story before you're launched into gameplay:

Otherwise, the only narrative you're treated to is the character backstories when forming a party immediately after:

They're all really cool and creative (an inanimate beastman found in an ancient ruin and reanimated by scholars, a single mother whose shop went bust and forced her to turn to adventuring, etc). As you can see, some characters are greyed out because they're out somewhere in the world and you have to find them (I haven't come across any of them yet).
Combat is like a mix between traditional ATB Final Fantasy and Divinity: Original Sin 2 of all things. Both you and enemies have three values: Physical Defense, Magic Defence, and HP. Before you can get at HP, you have to deplete PD or MD with appropriate attacks. There are a fair few quirks to this, like extra damage dealt to PD or MD not carrying over to HP (for example, you can hit an enemy with 30 MD for 40, and it'll take it to 0 and leave HP vulnerable, but it won't carry across the extra 10 - you'll have to use another turn to get at their HP), and PD and MD replenishing every battle - but not HP.
Ability points and PP are Final Fantasy Tactics-ish. AP are used to equip abilities you find out in the world:

As you can see, that one lets me see the tiles that trigger battles (which aren't random (and seem to respawn after a little bit if you're backtracking across the board)). The second one I came across was flee.
PP dictates what gear you can equip. Better gear costs more, and so on. I've come across shops selling spells and stuff, and have presumably picked up some crafting materials from battle (or maybe it's just stuff to sell for gold).
The music is sick, with lots of apocalyptic guitars, which is pretty much catnip for me.
Overall, I really enjoyed what I played. This might sound like a backhanded compliment, but it's not intended to be - this is kind of a perfect podcast game / boils down that really pleasing feeling in a JRPG where you're in the groove and have the ability to explore in a bunch of different directions while grinding up your characters.
I stopped when I got to this scary thing (I didn't mention it, but shops, enemy info, stairs, etc are all 'events' represented by numbers on the board):

Well, it's not scary, it's obviously pointing me to the coordinates 6, 17, 25 for treasure or whatever, but yeah
Dungeon Encounters is interesting, deep, and probably the most mechanically rich Square Enix game in years

The designer behind many of Final Fantasy’s best gameplay systems is back with an incredibly deep new game - but it’s bare-bones by design.www.vg247.com
