Aggiornamento di novembre e penso ormai il penultimo dell'anno, visto che a parte recuperare Star Wars a Natale non penso che acquisterò altro.
Nell'ultimo mese e mezzo ho acquistato un bordello di giochi, tutti al D1, ma non è che sono impazzito, semplicemente avevo 200€ di credito PSN (presi tramite la famosa promozione delle PSN Card dal GS) e ho deciso di investirli nei titoli in uscita e stare a posto così per il resto dell'inverno
Lato PSVR ho giocato e terminato Farpoint, gran bel titolo che per quanto grezzo è una mezza rivoluzione nel modo di concepire gli FPS in realtà virtuale, grazie all'uso di una periferica fenomenale come l'Aim Controller. Un titolo grezzo e un po' rushato in alcuni aspetti, anche a causa dei limiti tecnologici della VR ancora insuperabili, ma assolutamente da provare per chiunque abbia il visore.
Finito e platinato MediEvil, è stato bellissimo ritornare a vestire i panni di Sir Dan dopo tanti anni. Il lavoro fatto è davvero buono, uno dei remake più fedeli in assoluto all'originale, soprattutto come atmosfera e direzione artistica, pur senza sacrificare alcuni importanti adattamenti (necessari con un motore grafico completamente nuovo) visivi e soprattutto di gameplay (OO è stata intelligente ad inserire alcune semplificazioni di gameplay, alcune riprese anche dal secondo capitolo del gioco e non presenti originariamente nel primo). Come dicevo, il lavoro fatto dal lato artistico è sublime, MediEvil è uno dei giochi che più si regge sulla splendida atmosfera che lo caratterizza, con quello stile tipicamente Burtoniano, quindi non era facile restituire lo stesso feeling dell'originale e catturarne tutta la magia che l'ha reso famoso utilizzando uno stile grafico moderno, eppure ci sono riusciti alla grande. Considerando il prezzo assolutamente conveniente (29€), c'è ben poco di cui lamentarsi con questo remake, peccato solo per alcuni problemi tecnici importanti e grezzure varie dovute ad un budget di sviluppo fin troppo risicato, purtroppo trattandosi di un remake prevalentemente grafico queste cose pesano per ovvi motivi sulla valutazione complessiva, quindi oltre il 7/7.5 non si può andare.
Call of Duty MW c'è poco da dire, un bel ritorno per la serie e Infinity Ward, con una campagna davvero sorprendente e come al solito una mole di contenuti mastodontica con l'aggiunta delle Spec Ops e del solito multiplayer mastodontico. Peccato però che le prime siano fatte davvero a cazzo e il secondo soffra di evidenti problemi di bilanciamento, speriamo che con i prossimi aggiornamenti riescano a sfruttare meglio il gran potenziale del gioco
Infine, Luigi's Mansion 3 è uno dei titoli migliori che ho giocato negli ultimi mesi, nonchè una delle migliori esclusive Switch in assoluto. Davvero un gioco ben confezionato, rifinito allo stato dell'arte in quasi tutti gli aspetti e assolutamente divertente da giocare. Le aggiunte al gameplay come Gommiluigi rendono i puzzle del gioco ancora più interessanti che in passato e il gioco è ti mette costantemente davanti chicche e colpi di genio pazzeschi (l'apice a mio avviso è il piano 8, meraviglioso!), oltre ad un roster di boss fights davvero esaltante. Resta un minimo di amaro in bocca perchè dopo i provati dell'E3 mi aspettavo il salto di qualità definitivo per la serie (il Galaxy/Odyssey della situazione insomma), purtroppo una seconda metà di gioco un po' deludente, una scarsa varietà di fantasmi e alcune scelte discutibili sulla struttura di gioco (gestione monete, livello di sfida, struttura dei livelli/hotel) non consentono alla serie di fare quel salto che citavo prima. Il gioco resta comunque bellissimo, un 8,5 pieno per quanto mi riguarda al netto di qualsiasi imperfezione

Ultimo aggiornamento dell'anno prima di tirare le somme, aumentano gli acquistati, non i finiti. Non perché non abbia giocato niente, ma perché per un motivo o per l'altro o non ho avuto il tempo e/o la voglia di finire alcuni titoli. Che sono:
Tactics ogre: Let us cling together. Questo è un gran rimpianto, perché narrativamente è una delle storie più potenti che abbia mai vissuto pad alla mano. A farmi desistere è stato però il gameplay, che sulla lunga durata non è riuscito a darmi un livello di sfida e una varietà sufficienti a giustificare le decine di ore che ancora mi separavano dal finale. Il gioco è strutturalmente estremamente complesso, le variabili potenzialmente infinite, ma a conti fatti ogni battaglia è affrontabile sempre con la stessa identica strategia ed eventuali auto-imposte deviazioni da essa tendono ad essere addirittura penalizzate. Benché il gioco non richieda molto grinding, la monotonia è evidente anche solo tirando dritto con la bellissima campagna. Peccato davvero. In ogni caso, valeva comunque la pena di essere almeno provato.
Zero escape: Virtue's last reward. Un ottimo seguito, che amplia e arricchisce l'idea di 999. Non ne ero però un amante e la durata, dopo 30 ore di tentativi sistematici su tutti i bivi narrativi disponibili, e senza aver ancora visto un vero finale, mi ha scoraggiato. I puzzle intrattengono, e benché abbiano tutti una struttura di base sostanzialmente identica riescono a variare il contesto in misura sufficiente da non scadere in una monotonia che sarebbe stata intollerabile. Molto carina la meccanica basata sul dilemma del prigioniero, sebbene in certi frangenti venga forzata non poco per fini narrativi. Lo stile grafico è orripilante e la scrittura di basso livello, anche se dopo Danganronpa le mie aspettative per il genere sono sprofondate a tal punto che ho trovato questo a tratti quasi gradevole. Nel complesso non orribile ma di certo lungi dall'essere entusiasmante.
Death stranding. Ne ho parlato già tanto, e anche se in effetti non l'ho mai fatto qui sul forum la voglia di ricominciare il discorso da capo è poca. Dico solo che è un gioco che avrei voluto amare, ma minato da difetti troppo pesanti perché potessi trovarlo un'esperienza anche solo gradevole. In particolare questi si riferiscono soprattutto alla narrazione, sia a livello macro (la scrittura è uno shitshow che non riuscivo a prendere né sul ridere né tantomeno sul serio) che micro (ogni consegna è uguale, e quel minimo di contestualizzazione in cui viene incartata è una serie di mcguffin talmente insulsi e/o ripetitivi che probabilmente sarebbe stato meno desolante senza). Impossibile non citare anche la UI, che ho trovato francamente atroce e che mi ha scoraggiato dall'investire tempo e attenzione in alcune delle meccaniche di gioco che in teoria ne avrebbero richiesta ben di più. Sapere che ne avrei avuto per decine di ore mi ha convinto a sbolognarlo al primo offerente, finché potevo piazzarlo ancora bene. Capisco che sia un'esperienza che possa piacere perché anch'io ci ho visto un potenziale e una freschezza sulla carta quasi miracolosi, ma personalmente ho trovato l'esecuzione di una povertà inaccettabile.
Golf story. In realtà ci sono ancora in mezzo avendolo comprato solo pochi giorni fa, ma comincio ad avere la sensazione che non lo porterò fino in fondo. Mi ha deluso proprio là dove mi aspettavo di più, ovvero la narrativa, la varietà e lo stile. La scrittura dei dialoghi non è mai brillante, gli obiettivi proposti seppure infiocchettati in maniera sempre diversa ricadono infallibilmente in una manciata di minigiochi davvero poco ispirati, e anche stilisticamente dopo una prima buona impressione si rivela abbastanza ripetitivo e dozzinale. Nota di demerito per la colonna sonora, che oscilla tristemente fra l'anonimo e l'attivamente fastidioso. Ho trovato invece molta più soddisfazione nella parte di gioco dedicata al golf vero e proprio, che per me Wii Sports a parte è un campo del tutto nuovo. Non è perfetta (l'imposibilità di muovere liberamente la visuale è molto limitante per pianificare l'attraversamento dei campi) ma senz'altro gradevole. Sinceramente però non mi ci vedo ad andare avanti così per un'altra decina di ore.
Spiace chiudere l'anno con una serie di note così negative, seppur in modi e per motivi molto diversi. Tutto sommato, però, videoludicamente parlando è stata una buona annata per me. Presi Into the breach e Downwell su Switch, e quasi per caso iniziato e finito Tacoma. Interessantissimo esperimento di narrazione ambientale, fondato su un’idea semplice ma adeguatamente messa a frutto, utilizzata per raccontare una storia sorprendentemente intrigante e capace di brillare in più punti, specie nel bellissimo finale. Ottimo anche il doppiaggio, capace di rendere giustizia alla sceneggiatura, nonché l’originalità del world building. Forse la meccanica di base avrebbe potuto essere spremuta ancora più a fondo, ma complici la durata ben calibrata (un paio di sessioni sono tranquillamente sufficienti) e l’intelligente struttura narrativa (lineare, ma con un buon margine di libertà all’interno di ciascuna sezione) resta un’esperienza molto piacevole, e a suo modo unica, dall’inizio alla fine. Note di merito per l’aspetto tecnico (molto bello da vedere anche sul mio vecchio portatile) e anche per le canzoni inserite qui e là, peraltro ottime anche nel precedente Gone home. Felice di averlo recuperato.

Bilancio di fine anno, come sempre ho comprato più di quanto sono riuscito a giocare e mi sono ripromesso per il prossimo anno di evitare completamente qualsiasi acquisto senza la certezza di poterlo giocare a brevissimo termine, anche dovesse trattarsi della miglior offerta in circolazione.
2019 comunque di grandi soddisfazioni, PS4 è rimasta la console di gran lunga più usata, ma Switch mi ha regalato comunque soddisfazioni durante tutto l'anno, specialmente da settembre in poi.
