Intervista all'autore:

-Hokazono was at first scared when he learned his manga became the most viewed on MangaPlus, but is now glad that he has many fans
-His main influences are Western movies, Marvel, and Naruto
-He always wanted to write a revenge manga story, but the biggest challenge is to make an avenger protagonist likeable with shonen manga standards
-The goldfish were originally carp, but was changed because goldfish are easier to symbolize Chihiro's daily life with his father
-Contrary to most Japanese opinion, Hokazono likes the "exaggerated, hypercool" portrayal of Japan that appears in Hollywood movies, which inspired Kagurabachi's theme
-He focuses on the sudden transition from "motion'' to "stillness'' when drawing, especially in double spreads
-Hokazono used to be an art student and majored in product design and created furniture and chairs
-He always liked drawing, but didn't draw much in college; the pandemic pushed him to pursue his dream to become a mangaka and he quit university in his 2nd year
-Naruto is his biggest inspiration, and is the main reason why he decided to pursue becoming a mangaka
-He jokes that he was "too influenced by Naruto" back then, and thought that manga was all about action
-His story is a challenge because revenge story references are uncommon
-He is a major fan of Western movies, and Kagurabachi was also influenced by Hokazono watching John Wick
-His favorite movie directors are Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, and Christopher Nolan, but especially Tarantino
-Hokazono doesn't necessarily think that just drawing cool, raw af panels is enough, and there should be a flow or buildup to the big moments
-He wants to draw new things that the audience has never seen before, and wants to amaze both himself, and us

Kagurabachi was featured in the "Manganuma" TV program presented by Kawashima & Yamauchi's in Japan.

Kagurabachi is one of Animate Bookstore's 2024 recommendations and had a brief summary featured on TV with Volume 1:

"Kagurabachi by Takeru Hokazono-sensei. It's about a boy named Chihiro whose father is killed, and then he seeks revenge.

But when that comic was released, it was insanely popular. It was so popular that the comics were sold out in an instant.

So, not just because I like it, but also because it's been recommended by other customers, I thought I'd introduce it."

Then, in Kawashima & Yamauchi's comments, they say that they happened to have lunch with someone from Shueisha and that the comment was "(...) they said they wanted Kagurabachi to carry the next generation of Jump."

And then they conclude by highlighting Kagurabachi as the next ace in the program!
