Rumor: Unverified dev states that Microsoft has purchased a Polish developer to be announced in July
From the sauce:
" From what I have heard from Polish devs, this seems quite possible. There are certainly 2 consoles but afaik price point seemingly hasn't been decided yet. Microsoft is willing to take a big loss on every single unit, though.
What is more, I heard that Microsoft was trying to acquire couple and successfully acquired one of the biggest Polish game devs which will also be announced on July event. "
Now IF this is true, and this person isn't just telling tall tales on the interwebs... whom could it be?
Bets: (Pick One)
- The Astronauts - Developers of Vanishing of Ethan Carter and the upcoming Witchfire.
Made up of former People Can Fly developers, Vanishing of Ethan Carter has been quoted by some to be one of Phil Spencer's favorite games. They are small polish dev team with ambitions of AAA with their new Gritty FPS Hack/Slash/Shoot Looter Single Player game Witchfire. Also interesting, the game is only announced for PC Steam at this time without any next-gen plans.
- People Can Fly - Worked with Microsoft in the past with Gear of War Judgement. Developers of Bulletstorm (but many devs have left to form other Polish studios)
- 11 Bit Studios - Developers of Frostpunk. Maybe they want to go the big time?
- The Farm 51 - Developers of World War 3 and Deadfall Adventures. They were previously mentioned in an famous Reddit post on the Xbox One subreddit that has pretty much gotten ALOT correct about both Microsoft's and Sony Next-Gen plans. They were named specifically in a post about having recurring discussions with Microsoft.
- Techland - Developers of Call of Jaurez, Dying Light franchise. Boy has there been some SMOKE around this one. Both a game dev and a publisher, they just recently closed down their publishing arm and moved into a big shiny new office. Additionally, they delayed Dying Light 2 "indefinitely" after having it premier on MS Stage last E3. An "insider" on Neogaf(lol) who got everything RIGHT about Xbox Series X but everything WRONG about PS5 claims that Techland has been bought by Microsoft.
Additionally, even though Techland claims they have not been purchased by Microsoft, so did Obsidian like right before Microsoft aquired them. Watch this space maybe?
6. CD Projekt Red - Not ****ing happening, move on.
7. Bloober Team - Real buddy/buddy right now with Microsoft with having both Blair Witch released last year onto GamePass and Microsoft claiming "The Medium" Bloober Teams new Silent Hill inspired 3rd-Person Horror Game as a launch exclusive for GamePass. However, Bloober Team is a publicly traded company so Microsoft would have to announce their intent to purchase them.
So my bet?
The Astronauts with Techland as the dark horse just because of some smoke.
Once again, if this is true.
