http://nintendoeverything.com/project-octopath-traveler-devs-on-the-early-silence-development-progress-more/- They had been quiet since January because they wanted to release the demo worldwide simultaneously. So, unfortunately, they had to hold a lot of information in until that was ready. They really wanted to to the demo because they wanted everyone to be able to see what the visuals looked like running on the switch to increase interest.- Hard to put the current development progress into a single number percentage, but, as we’ve seen in the demo, they’ve got combat, dialog, exploration, etc in the game and working. They’re also still refining the visuals.
- Interviewer was told by his boss not to play the demo so that he could be playing it for the first time during the interview today. He was super pissed that he couldn’t play it. Haha.
- Hopefully, there will be plenty of Switches when the game launches so everyone that wants to play it will be able to.
- When the Japanese say “Octopath” オクトパス they pronounce it the same as octopus. Interviewer thought it had something to do with octopus until they explained the name. Laughs all around.
- Told interviewer to use Obleric to show off the battles.
- They really discussed and tested voice acting, but decided to put it in to be a little more immersive.
- It will have English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Italian text on launch. Sounds like they’ll have one version worldwide.
- Door openings are their best use of HD Rumble. They originally had it rumble with every footstep and it was way too much, so they took it out.
- Asked a Producer if he liked Romance Saga. He said yes. Interviewer said he was relieved, then. It’s in good hands.
- Developers explain that they intend the flow of battle to be: Find weakness -> Break -> Hit hard with Boost. It’s simple, but it can get complex.
https://www.dualshockers.com/project-octopath-traveler-screenshots/we get to see the already mentioned improvements that the team is working on following fan-feedback from the demo.
These include a fast-travel option that lets you instantly move to towns you have already visited, on top of a change to movement speed.
Not only characters’ speed will change from walking to running as you press further on the stick, but by pressing B you can increase the pace even beyond running speed.
A minimap featured showing the current destination has been added, on top of various visibility adjustments in dungeons to help players find their way around more comfortably.
A setting that will let players change brightness and intensity of the screen shading effect will also be added, and in the gallery, you can see a comparison between normal screen shading and the reduced setting.
More changes involve the ability to skip event scenes, alongside a setting to change the speed of text display.
A minor but welcome change is the default position of the cursor on the save screen. Apparently, since it defaulted on “save” in the demo, many overwritten their current games by mistake, so it’ll default on “load” instead. Slots will be increased to ten, on top of an autosave one.
While there were many comments that asked to make battles more interesting, players have not experienced combat with four characters yet, and there are unannounced features that we don’t yet know about.
https://www.dualshockers.com/octopath-traveler-screenshots-haanit-therion/H’aanit is 26 years old and lived for a long time as a hunter in a village in the Woodland region. Her master left the village a year ago to hunt monsters called “Red Eyes” and she decides to depart to find him. Her special path action is “Provoke” letting her control various beasts to fight off troublemaker or “persuade” them to get out of the way, revealing blocked routes. She is also very proficient with her bow, allowing her to hit with great accuracy. It also helps to increase the critical chance of allies and to slow down the enemies’ actions.
Therion is 22 years old, from the Cliffland region. His past is unknown, but rumors about him make the rich and noble tremble. His special path action is “Steal” letting him acquire goods that aren’t sold in stores and sell some of them to various clients. He’s also very quick and good with his dagger. His attacks can drain both SP and HP and can lower the enemies’ attack and defense power.
We also get to see Noble and Rogue actions, that allow you to choose whether to be righteous or a scoundrel depending on which actions you use. Noble actions can be used without chance of failure, but they’re limited by currency or level. On the other hand, it’s possible to fail while executing rogue actions, and doing so several times can deteriorate your relationship with a city, but bribing the innkeeper can restore it.
Lastly, we see side stories. The game includes many quests that can be solved by using path actions and often have several ways to see them to conclusion.
