The Myconid is a race of intelligent fungus creatures appearing in Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei. This is notable as while the concept of mushroom creatures is well known in pop culture, the specific term “Myconid” was specifically invented for the fantasy tabletop role playing game Dungeons & Dragons.

In the bottom right of the tower in Sable Izolle is a set of wigs. These wigs appear to reference past "Tales of" characters. From left to right, they resemble Cress Alvein (Tales of Phantasia), Senel Coolidge (Tales of Legendia), Reid Hershel (Tales of Eternia), and Veigue Lungberg (Tales of Rebirth).

According to a 1997 The PlayStation magazine interview with the game's director Makoto Ikehara & programmer Tatsuya Kitabayashi, they were asked how the game's development began. Ikehara stated that their developments "always sort of start the same way, with just a title." After which they just make whatever they want, and force it to all fit together after the fact. Ikehara also stated that when changing series to the PlayStation, the team considered calling the third game just "Breath of Fire" without the "III", but they ultimately decided not to as they wanted to bring about a conclusion to the work they had done up to then.
Kitabayashi added that after Breath of Fire II had finished, the team, now more confident, wanted to carry over that momentum from the previous game and begin working on Breath of Fire III straightaway.
Ikehara was also asked if there were things that they could not achieve in II that they wanted to do in III, to which he responded:
"Yeah. That’s true with every development, the whole “we’ll do it next time!” thing.

The original idea Yoko, Iwasaki and Shiba had for the game was an Ace Combat inspired flight simulator based on riding a dragon. Much of the game's combat was originally inspired by Dynasty Warriors 2, which was popular at the time.

A message from a skeleton in the game mentions the condition of the pipes in the castle and how they would unsettle even his brother, Mario. An obvious nod to the Super Mario franchise.

The Celebi in the mission of the future is shiny. This is the first instance of a shiny Pokemon appearing in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series. It's also only the second time a shiny Pokemon has had a major role in the story (the first being Generation II's red Gyarados).

The character Looker bares a strong resemblance to Koichi Zenigata, a fictional detective in Monkey Punch's manga series, Lupin the Third. This is most likely intentional since Lupin the Third was released when many of the Game Freak developers were young.

Lunar The Silver Star
In a 1992 interview with the game's animator Toshiyuki Kubooka published in BEEP! Megadrive pre-release magazines, he was asked how working on a game like Lunar: The Silver Star compared to animation? He responded:
"The character design itself is almost the same. However, because these characters need to be rendered in compressed, chibi-pixel form, you’ve got to make sure their basic shapes are distinct enough to make them immediately recognizable. This was my first time doing that kind of bonafide character design work, but I was pretty free to do what I wanted, and I had a good time. The animation work for Lunar was entrusted to Shunji Suzuki, who worked with me on Nadia."

Contra: Hard Corps has significant differences between the Japanese, American, and European versions. In the Japanese version the characters all have a lifebar, and can be hit three times. This version also has unlimited continues unlike the American and European (PAL) version. The American and European version does not have a lifebar; a single bullet will take a life. This makes the American and European version significantly more challenging.
The European version also has significant censorship. The game is called Probotector and all the characters in the game are robots. Furthermore the plot and cut-scenes are different. The antagonists are aliens and the Alien Cell's name was changed to the "X-Drive".
