FIFA-2001.jpg

The U.K. versions of FIFA 2001 and Gran Turismo 2 shipped with the peculiar idea of “scratch and sniff” discs. If you scratched FIFA’s disc, you would “smell the pitch.” Rubbing Gran Turismo 2’s disc would deliver an “authentic pit-stop smell.”

One of the minor enemies in the game, Bludge, bears a strong resemblance to Blanka from the Street Fighter series. Both characters have a similar start to their name, orange hair and green skin, and have a similar set of attacks.

Una curiosità sul nome di Sonic:

Sonicandsoniccrop.jpg

The idea of sonic being super-fast came from the gene and protein in humans that separates the right and left brain. However, the game’s name didn’t get inspiration from the SHH (Sonic Hedgehog) gene, but a comic-book series.

The Primal Rage design team implemented an unusual and largely unknown security method into the arcade machine's coding that prevented the full features of the game from becoming active when emulated. Since the original programming team has since moved on to other things, they could not be reached for questioning regarding the game's security lock-outs. Those who have been contacted expressed no interest in unlocking the ROM BIOS for freeware distribution or security corrections. For these reasons, no perfect emulation of the original arcade game exists. In the absence of these security protections, blood would be "censored" in that it would be colored a yellowish color with a brown shading. Also, fatalities could not be performed, and many special moves were not available. Another emulation problem was the player could no longer chain attacks, which greatly decreased the chance of performing a combo. These issues even affect the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 collection, which would supposedly feature an arcade perfect rendition of the game, but instead provides a censored and incomplete version.

Una curiosità su Space Invaders:

Spaceinvaders.png

The idea of some “more aliens getting killed, the faster they come out” started as a fluke and hardware malfunction while playing Space Invaders – although it is one of the bedrock of gaming today. Initially, the game’s hardware frees up whenever aliens get killed and that caused the game to run faster – it wasn’t the initial plan.

When choosing candidates for the Tatsunoko and Capcom character rosters, the development team were given free reign to nominate any character they wished. However, the team faced limitations on its Tatsunoko candidates; Niitsuma explained, "[We] had to consider licensing issues. Once we had that list we had to figure out how to make a balanced fighting game. On top of that we wanted a good balance between male and female characters." Among the Tatsunoko candidates, the team considered the eponymous characters of Muteking, The Dashing Warrior and Nurse Witch Komugi, but they were eventually scrapped. The team also disallowed characters from Genesis Climber MOSPEADA or Samurai Pizza Cats, despite the high number of fan requests for the latter. As for Capcom candidates, the development team hoped to include Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins, Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Evolution, Charlie Nash, Ibuki and M. Bison from Street Fighter, a Tyrant (unclear which one specifically) and Leon from Resident Evil, Date Masamune from Sengoku BASARA, Hsien-Ko from Darkstalkers, Zero Gouki from Cyberbots, Tiara from Gaia Master, Rouge from Power Stone, June from Star Gladiator, and Nero from Devil May Cry.

The enemy character red bones' name in Japanese: Buraddi Honenoko, which translates to bloody son of bone (or bloody dull bones), which could hint to a koopa meeting a gory demise, then being resurrected as a dry bones, but still had a stained shell.

Un piccolo trivia che forse i fan ricorderanno

Before being changed to Metroid, the game was going to be named Space Hunter. Also, Space Hunter was used as Samus' title instead of Bounty Hunter in the original game manual. There wasn't enough time left in development to change the occupation, so Space Hunter was left in the original Instruction Manual.
