During the battle, a high-pitched, menacing laugh will appear, but it is not made by Mad Jack himself, but rather is part of the music track. Mad Jack's real voice, as well as the aforementioned laugh, were taken from stock tracks recorded by the late Clarence Nash, the original voice of Donald Duck.

Often, Death's HP/EXP values contain only fours, or they are multiples of four in some obvious way. This is a Japanese-language-specific pun, as the pronunciation of the number "four" and the word for "death" are phonetically identical ("shi").

In an 'Shining Force Encyclopedia' interview with game's Producer/Designer Hiroyuki Takahashi, he was asked how his team came up with the Japanese title "Shining Force: The Legacy of the Gods". Takahashi stated: "We had a few different candidates for titles. The one we chose was suggested by the scenario writer. Originally, the title was simply 'Kamigami no Isan' ('Legacy of the Gods'). I’m something of a sci-fi diehard, and I read a bunch of sci-fi novels that had similar-sounding titles, like “the _ of the _”, so that’s why we settled on this one."

The Koopa Bros. are an obvious reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Both the Koopa Bros. and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are turtles and wear bandannas around their heads. The Koopa Bros. also speak in skater slang similar to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

There is an entire animation and character rigging file for the character Aiai from Super Monkey Ball 2 in the game's data. This may simply be a remnant left over from development for testing purposes, as the game runs on the same engine as Super Monkey Ball.

A Soccer Ball is found in the Halo 2 Campaign level Metropolis, hidden in the rooftops. There is speculation that it was used by Bungie to test the physics engine of the game, and that they left it in the level instead of deleting it. It also appears as a Forge item available to place on certain maps in Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4.

In The PlayStation (JP) Magazine interview, the game's director Lorne Lanning was asked where the idea for the GameSpeak action system came from. He responded: "The GameSpeak interactions came from us trying to figure out what kind of actions or movements Abe could have that would be funny, humorous, or kind of suggest to players that he was this weird guy, in a light-hearted way. How could we make players feel more intimately connected with the world and characters? GameSpeak was our answer to that. When players see other characters talking with Abe and interacting with him, it provokes a feeling of cuteness and affection for those characters, and the player then empathizes more closely with what’s happening on-screen. It helps bring them to life as characters, you could say."
