In the Japanese version, Akio Ohtsuka and Takeshi Aono, who voiced Snake and Colonel Campbell respectively in the Metal Gear Solid games, reprised their character roles for their cameos in this game. However, in the US version, David Hayter and Paul Eiding, who voiced Snake and Colonel Campbell respectively, were not able to reprise their character roles for this game. Instead, Peter Lurie and Michael McColl played each character, respectively.

If the protagonist has not entered Tartarus once within the first 10 days, upon returning to the Iwatodai Dormitory that evening, Mitsuru will confront and scold him/her for slacking off and forcibly bring him/her to Tartarus just before the first Full Moon Operation. She will also stop the protagonist from leaving until S.E.E.S has started exploring Block 1 of the tower.

The game was originally planned to have a slightly different story, however the writer, Yu Godai, was forced to abandon the work due to illness and Atlus where left with trying to finish up the story on their own. Yu would continue the story after she recovered, however, which led to the Quantum Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner novels.

DQ reference

If Musashi visits the church in Grillin' Village in Chapters 5 or 6, Father White will mention that he wants to practice bringing people back from the dead for a small fee, a clever nod to the function of churches in the Dragon Quest series.

Director Hifumi Kono was hesitant about releasing the game on the PlayStation. Given that Sony was new to the video game console market, Kono was unsure about their success, despite them outnumbering the Sega Saturn in terms of sales. Kono eventually settled on the PlayStation as an exclusive title, as he felt the PlayStation was the one that could dominate the fifth generation console market, which it did.

A really good choice :pokidance:

In a 2001 V-Jump magazine interview with the game's art director Yusuke Naora, he was asked where the idea for an "asian" themed world came from? He responded: "Let’s see… after the cyberpunk and “near-future” settings of VII and VIII, we returned to our roots with FFIX. So the question became, what should we do next…? And to be honest, that question vexed us. Around that time, I happened to be looking through some books and travel pamphlets and randomly thought to myself, “you know, Asia is really nice too…” There haven’t been many fantasy games in that kind of setting. There have been games set in China, or with a Chinese atmosphere, but nothing with a Southeast Asian or similar setting. So I thought I’d try drawing some pictures to flesh out this vision I had, when lo and behold, I read Kazushige Nojima’s script and by chance it turned out to have the same feeling. Then it was like, OK, now we’ve got to do this. We all brainstorm ideas on our own, but when we meet up and share them, the ideas that happen to be similar to each other are always good ones."

Nearly all of the items that could invoke magic spells were made inaccessible in the western release titled Final Fantasy II, as well as the subsequent Japan-only Easy Type release. Still retained were the FireBomb/Red Fang and the Lit-Bolt/Blue Fang, which are shown in the opening demonstration battles. The Lit-Bolt/Blue Fang item cannot be found in the game itself, however. Additionally, all of the items intended to cure a single status effect were also been made inaccessible, replaced by the Heal/Heal-All Potion, which was made cheaper in stores. Many treasure chests, shop inventories, and monster drops were modified to remove these dummied items.

Version Difference!
MLVVHtf.jpg

The Japanese version of the game is called "悪魔城ドラキュラXX Akumajō Dorakyura Daburu Ekkusu" - which in English literally translates to "Devil's Castle Dracula Double X". The American version, however, is simply called "Castlevania: Dracula X". Likewise, the Australian & European versions were renamed to "Castlevania: Vampire's Kiss". There are also several differences between the titles screens of the three games. The Australian/European version does not have blood on its title screen. The Japanese version also uses two religious crosses in its "Double X" title, rather than a single red X used by the American version. The "PASS WORD" option is also spelled incorrectly in the Japanese version, but was later corrected as "PASSWORD" in the International version. In the Australian/European & Japanese versions, the boomerang cross weapon looks like a religious cross, but was replaced with a regular X-shaped cross in the International version. This was likely done to avoid any religious complaints.
