Vogliamo Diddy:
Originally Lin was to be revealed as being Deis.
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes began development as a proposal from Retro Studios level designer Tony Giovannini, pitched right after the release of Metroid Prime. Dubbed "Metroid 1.5", the pitch entailed a far different game involving Samus being abducted by a massive alien spaceship out to conquer the galaxy and battling a schizophrenic AI, and far more detailed multiplayer.
By defeating 1,000 Old Axe Armors in the regular story, you can unlock a special version of the game in which you will play as an Old Axe Armor. This mode is the only special mode which does not give you a partner.
According to Hideo Kojima, during the filming of The Boss' fight with Naked Snake at Dremuchij North during Operation Snake Eater, Eriko Hirata, The Boss' motion capture actress, started breaking into tears, as she had read the script and thus already knew about The Boss' ultimate fate.
An early concept-art shows a version of Skyloft that was actually inspired by the real-life Mont Saint Michel in France.
In the beginning of the game, in Sector 1, X parasites have infested 5 atmospheric stabilizers and you have to restore them to normal. Look closely at these atmospheric stabilizers and you will see a hidden GameCube console in the top-left corner.
Three of the characters in the game (Chris P Bacon, Old King Coal and Bullion Bill) were not actually named by Rare, but by members of the British public. Nintendo Official Magazine in the UK held a competition where the winners would receive a copy of the game once it hit shelves as well as a signed poster and their suggested name being used in the final game.
An extension for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time originally known as URA Zelda was originally going to be released by Nintendo before it was ultimately cancelled. It may have been cancelled because it was planned to be released for the N64 Disc Drive, which was released late in the console's lifecycle and undersold in most markets. What was known, however, was that it would have added new features to the game, such as Link's footsteps appearing in sand, having damaged trees, having bushes and grass damaged for the entire game, and changing up dungeons.
In the Japanese version of the game, the Zora Queen's smooth gem is not a source of her power. The gem is actually her secret to beauty, and she turned fat when she lost her gem. Any reference was changed to power in the US version. One of the Zora in Zora's Domain says he's fond of the Queen being fat, but in the US he just says that they have to get the gem back. After getting the gem back to Oren, that same Zora was disappointed that Oren became slim again. Another Zora mentions the queen's beauty returning, but it was changed to just "What a relief." After completing the House of Gales, a Zora says that he was swimming with the queen but lost her, even saying that he lost her because she was so slim. In the US version, nothing about weight was mentioned. It seems likely that these changes were made as Nintendo of America didn't want people to think the game was fat shaming people.
Kiri, the girl in Sootopolis City who gives the player two berries each day, was named after director Junichi Masuda's daughter. Kiri was born in September 2002, just two months before the Japanese release of Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire.
It was originally believed that the only reason the game needed the Expansion Pak to run was because it fixed a game-breaking bug that caused the 4 megabyte game cartridge to randomly crash. Rare couldn't find any other solution, so they bundled the Expansion Pak with the game, costing them a lot of money. They still don't know what caused the bug. "There was a bug that caused the game to randomly crash that only occurred in the 4meg-only version ... and they couldn't find out what it was, so they had to shift with the memory card in it for free and it cost them a fortune." - Chris Marlow However, developer Mark Stevenson has since claimed that while there was a game-breaking bug, it only affected one hardware revision of the Nintendo 64 that would be resolved on later models. He claims that the actual reason the Expansion Pak was required was because Rare's management instructed the game's developers to support it early in development to accommodate advanced graphical effects like dynamic lighting. Stevenson speculated that these two stories were likely conflated into one, creating the memory leak rumor that persisted for years.
