In an interview with game's designer Tokurou Fujiwara, he was asked how the developers began making the game. He responded: "I’ve been wanting to make this game for a very long time. Then when the CP System PCBs came out, it felt like the timing was finally right. The CPS boards have a lot of memory, but the plans we drew up for Daimakaimura called for a game even larger than that. There was so much stuff in there—twice as much as what’s been added to the game right now. Even when it’s completed, I think it will only be about half of what we originally planned. And still, compared with the original Makaimura it’s a massive increase in content."
development of Nier started after the release of Drakengard 2. The original concept was for a third entry in the Drakengard series. It was intended to be for seventh generation consoles due to the lessening importance of the PlayStation 2, which Drakengard 2 had been made for. However, as the project evolved, the original ideas were reworked and the game eventually became a spin-off from the main series. Despite this, the game's director Taro Yoko continues to think of it as the third Drakengard game.![]()

On the cover of the US release are a number of weapons in the background. One near Ratchet's head reads "____NTO-RAY". No weapon in the final game fits this name, nor looks like the image associated with it. However, one of the cut weapons for the game was called the "Giganto Ray", and it is likely that this design was left on the cover by mistake.
Quake II is not a direct sequel to Quake, and only shares the name because the developers were unable to acquire trademarks on any of the names they had considered for the game. They eventually got fed up with the repeated rejections, and decided to just call the game Quake II because they already owned the trademark on it.![]()
