When you complete all 3 endings for Kisuke, you earn the trophy "A New Hope". This is most likely a nod to the movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

When Locke rescues Celes, if he is dressed in an Imperial soldier's uniform, Celes asks him, "Aren't you a little short for an Imperial soldier?" This is a reference to the same line given by Leia to Luke, who is dressed as a Storm Trooper, in the film Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

Spekkio is believed to make an appearance in the Bend of Time. If Janice is brought to the area, the timekeeper will note that the "God of Combat" has taken an interest in her, and she will be bestowed her level 7 tech, What'sUpDoc. He still has his own separate room, and after a trial similar to the one in Chrono Trigger (involving running three laps around the room) he offers a battle with Ozzie, Slash, and Flea. A minigame ensues in which the player must run a correct number of laps to receive a Dreamer's Sarong. After the minigame is won, he remarks that perhaps he will see the player in another, different dimension.

An unused Trade Workshop building can be found in the game's data. It was originally planned to function as a building where to player could assign villagers to produce "Luxury Good", which could be sold for gold. Though scrapped, remnants of their existence can still be found in the game's scenario editor, with its icon resembling the Market economic building. The building can also be seen in several scenarios, too.

The developers looked at a number of MMORPGs such as Phantasy Star Online, Ultima Online, and Final Fantasy XI for inspiration. The prior works of character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and scenario writer Kazunori Itō (Ghost in the Shell) were also an influence.
