It is actually possible to "kill" Doctor Wily in the penultimate boss battle with him. After destroying Wily Machine No. 4, switch to Toad Man's "Rain Flush" weapon and fire it so that the screen-clearing rain comes down before Wily leaves the screen in his escape pod. The attack will destroy him with a sound effect and explosion graphic the same as if you were destroying a common stage enemy. Mega Man will now be stuck on this screen forever, as the game does not move on to the next level if you do this.

In the "Mystic Marsh" level, coins can be found in the fountain with the face of Dan Johnson on them. Dan was an Insomniac employee famous for his in-game cameos. This is the first time that Dan Johnson appeared within a game, a trend that would continue in the Ratchet & Clank series.

A little bit of backstory

In an interview, Hironobu Sakaguchi alludes to Gilgamesh's early life. Gilgamesh grew up in a village where all men were warriors. The Genji equipment sets were ancient and precious sets of armor from that village, and were usually passed on to its best warriors when they proved their worth in battle. It is said that the centuries of "blood, sweat and dust" accumulated on the Genji equipment have made them extremely resistant.

There is an unused 7th stage in PaRappa the Rapper, which seems to be an encore of the final stage where audience members - including PaRappa's rival Joe Chin - come on stage and copy PaRappa's rhymes instead of the other way around. This concept would be used in PaRappa the Rapper 2 as an encore following the final stage's Cool Mode.

A fully-textured model of a Ripper from earlier Metroid games can be found among the Phazon Mines files. The hook on the bottom suggests that they may have been used as grapple points. They were probably replaced with Gliders, which serve the same purpose, and are found in the Phazon Mines as well as in Phendrana Drifts.

Due to LucasArts rushing the game's development to release it on time for the holidays, a large number of content and story was either cut or unfinished with numerous bugs remaining in the game. M4-78, a planet inhabited by droids, was one of the worlds originally intended to be visitable by the player where they'd find one of the Jedi Masters and her apprentice.

Different treatment

In the Japanese release of the game, the game's packaging accommodates every disc with it's own slot. However in the European and North American release of the game, the fourth disc is just put in a nub above the instruction manual. This has caused some criticism of Microsoft because it's very easy to cause scratches to the fourth disc.

The "To Be Continued" logo at the end of the game's credits is a reference to the Back to the Future film series.
