- Expansion launches 3PM pacific time on Thursday.
- Have to finish main story to begin Kliff, Oongka and Damiane’s DLC stories.
- Their stories are separate from each other and don’t connect.
- The naval / settlement / castle building stuff is accessible from chapter 3 (Greymane camp established).
- Big scary sea monsters.
- Weekly updates are no longer a thing, don’t expect them after DLC launch (but still expect substantial, non-paid updates).
- Some (but not all) water areas in the base game (like lakes and ponds) will be getting the underwater treatment. The entire coastline will get the underwater treatment.
- New writer doing the DLC stories, they did the Enhanced version of the main story as well.
- Will says Oongka’s epilogue story is his favorite.
- Will says that a majority of the content in the patches since launch wasn’t “planned ahead of launch” or “cut before launch” like speculation suggests but created entirely from scratch after feedback.
- He says this quick turnaround is thanks to their in-house engine and not relying on support studios and everything is done in-house.
- There is a shift in mindset on who the “protagonist” is. Going forward, Oongka and Damiane will be just as important as Kliff and are considered protagonists as well.
- Romanceable NPCs have unique content, interactions, quests, etc. (not all just copy and paste)
- ALL NPCs can now be talked to or interacted with (think RDR2 greet / antagonize system).
- That said, don’t expect a crazy amount of depth like a Baldur’s Gate game or Mass Effect. It’s mostly about immersion.
- Friends you make and important NPCs (like Middler) can visit your camp and establishments.
- Content is not only ocean focused and spans the entirety of the base game map.
- Significant amount of story content for all three characters, maintaining the focus on characterization and writing from Enhanced.
- Effort to make the three playable characters have and show more personality.
- Will hasn’t noticed any new skills in the tree but that might have changed for launch. Devs don’t want to bloat the controls. New gear artifacts and stuff, though.
- NPCs do not raid your castles.
- For your houses and estates, you build it from the ground up in whatever shape you want. Castles / strongholds are prebuilt, unlocked in stages via dispatch missions, but you can decorate the interior and courtyard however you want.
- Lots of hidden secrets in the ocean.
- New open world content and side stories that any character can do.
- Ocean / sailing has new weather systems, the waves are impressive and get massive and dangerous during storms.
- Camp resources used to build ship, but only to build it, upgrades are via a different progression system.
- Ship boarding.
