Dragon Quest Builders details land of Rimuldar

■ Continents

There are a number of continents in the world of Dragon Quest Builders. And several regions are present in each. Since the monsters and material that appear change by region, you’ll make new discoveries even by exploring the same continent. You can make preparations for your journey in town before departing. You can freely go back and forth between each region using the “Travel Gate.”

The Monsters of Merkid

You’ll encounter several monsters in the first continent, Merkid. In the Grasslands, you’ll encounter monsters like Slimes, Dracky, and Chimeras. In the Mountains, you’ll encounter Hammerhoods, She-slimes, and such. In the Desert, you’ll find Scorpions and Bunicorns. And in the Mines, you’ll find Rockbombs and Golems.

Towards a New Continent

After repelling the monsters and bringing peace to the town, you can move forward towards the next continent.

■ Rimuldar

After restoring the light in Merkid, the hero heads for Rimuldar. In this land, due to “a certain pathogen” spread by monsters in the past, an illness has plagued the continent. To treat the disease, you’ll help a nun named Elle build a hospital. The land’s only doctor is an “Old Doctor Gen,” who might know a cure for the illness. People awaiting help are scattered about Rimuldar. You’ll bring them back to town for treatment in the hospital.

There’s also a training dojo set up by some monsters.

■ Monsters of Rimuldar

Some of the monsters that inhabit Rimuldar include the Scarewolf, Caterpillar, and Walking Corpses.

Dragon Quest Builders details Myra continent, rail cars

Square Enix has released a new set of Dragon Quest Builders details and screenshots, introducing the game’s third continent, Myra, and the rail cars you’ll use to get around.

Myra

Myra is a land flowing with magma and full of danger. You’ll come here after finishing up the game’s first two continents, Merkid and Rimuldar.

There is a monster stronghold in the lava zone. Break through its guards and aim for the interior. What kind of materials can you get here?

There are also strong monsters who can endure harsh environments. However, human beings can also stick it out. Trustworthy allies will fight alongside the hero.

By advancing through the story of Myra, you’ll be able to use the “hot springs” in town. There are even unique specialty cuisines you can only make in the hot springs.

Explore the Sea of Magma with the Rail Car

Simply walking in the lava zone will lower your health, so you’ll have a hard time if you’re only going by foot. But luckily, in Myra, you can easily move through dangerous areas with the rail car.

There are two types of rail cars: “wooden” and “iron.” To move around by rail car, players will need to lay down the tracks. They can go straight, curve, and incline.

Dragon Quest Builders will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan on January 28.

Are there any differences based on the protagonist’s gender?
Fujimoto: “No. You can also customize the player’s skin and hair color. You can change your appearance, including your name, at any time via the system menu.”

Regarding Free Build Mode…

“In Free Build mode, since the entire map is like a town, monsters won’t surface. If you want to battle monsters, you can go to the ‘The Island of Cleared Stage Materials’ or the ‘Battle Island,’ which will be a private island where you can fight. On Battle Island, you can get special rewards by using Battle Tickets.”

How long does it take to clear the story?

“You can enjoy the main story for about the same about of time as a traditional Dragon Quest game. If you explore each continent and do the side elements, it’ll take 100 hours easy. If you’re just doing the main story without detours, you’ll be playing for 50 to 60 hours. The towns in the story mode aren’t big, as we’ve put limitations. I want you to create big towns in Free Build mode.”

Regarding Share functionality…

“Spoilers are okay. You can do everything.”

Will we see all the towns from Dragon Quest I?

“We’re making the terrain based on the map of Dragon Quest I, so naturally I would think you can go just about anywhere that was in the first game. As for how it holds up, I want you to check it for yourself.”

Are there buildings that weren’t in Dragon Quest I?

“There is a pyramid in the desert, and there’s a number of towers that you’ve never seen. We weren’t thinking about a complete reproduction of the first game. You can dig into mountains, discover caves, and find treasure chests, so I think we’ve made it into a game where it’s clear it’s a block-making RPG.”

Dragon Quest Builders details Alefgard exploration

Exploring Alefgard

While exploring Alefgard, you’ll be able to do things that don’t directly lead to the revival of Alefgard, but that you may enjoy and receive reward for.

The Immobile Machine

DQB_01-13-16_001.jpg

An immobile Metal Hunter lies at the front of a corpse sitting on a bed of flowers. You can rely on its belongings to finish putting down the flowers it intended to plant.

Big Bro Disappeared

DQB_01-13-16_002.jpg

Before teaching you how to make graves, a Hammerhood laments that his big brother has gone missing. There is a suspicious-looking treasure chest that can be seen in the back of the tomb site. Can you expect it as a reward?

Anxious Gaze

DQB_01-13-16_003.jpg

The women bathing in the open air bath feel eyes gazing upon them from somewhere. It’s expected that a wall blocking unwanted eyes is properly built, but…

People Who Succeed Legends

Somewhere in the fallen world, there are those waiting for the hero’s arrival. Your encounters with them will not only help lead to Alefgard’s revival, but also provide clues to the truth about the world.

The man who runs the armor shop, for example, inherited the powerful weapons creation of his ancestors, and will teach the protagonist.

DQB_01-13-16_004.jpg

The old man who calls himself the prophet Mutsuheta, as if he knew of the protagonist’s coming, will try to lead you somewhere.

DQB_01-13-16_005.jpg

A young man whose ancestor was a lover of harps is also a lover of songs and music, but does not seem to have a harp.

DQB_01-13-16_006.jpg

Monsters

A Dragon protects a treasure chest.

DQB_01-13-16_007.jpg

Slimes gather to become a King Slime.

DQB_01-13-16_008.jpg

Metal Slimes also roam the world and may possess valuable materials.
