The latest set of Etrian Mystery Dungeon gameplay trailers introduce teh game’s “D.O.E.” enemies and “Fortress & Defense Party” system.
D.O.E. are special enemies that appear within dungeons in a dash to reach the upper echelons. If they make it as far as the main town, it will destroy its facilities, resulting in said town becoming unusable for a short period of time. Therefore, it’s important to keep the town protected. To withstand these attacks, you’ll need to erect a fortress and position town guards. Additionally, while D.O.E. enemies make for fierce opponents, they should only be taken out with sufficiently strong parties.

The next entry of the Etrian Odyssey Untold series is essentially two games in one – the first, a Nintendo 3DS update to Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard (released on Nintendo DS) with new dungeon layouts, new graphics, and system improvements from the recent Etrian Odyssey Untold. The second is the Untold portion – a brand new story mode with a fixed party, voiced dialogue,and animated cutscenes that follows the bittersweet tale of the Fafnir Knight, Princess Arianna, Flavio *- another hero of the Midgard Library – and the two adventurers, Bertrand and Chloe. The five meet while exploring the Ginnungagap ruins, and then after misfortune unfolds, they venture back and forth between the Yggdrasil Labyrinth and Ginnungagap, slowly working their way to discovering the origins of the Fafnir Knight.

Described as one “not one to wait in a tower and be rescued,” Arianna runs into battle head-on alongside her friends. She’s modeled after the Sovereign class and has a strong balance of defense and support abilities—passive healing, to be specific. As the princess, Arianna must trek to ancient, mysterious ruins and complete a ritual to fulfill a royal tradition to save her kingdom. But they’re home to hordes of dangerous monsters, which you’ll need to subdue in order to help Arianna complete her quest.
