Gamescom 2012 may not feature GTA 5, and almost certainly won't include a new game reveal from Valve, following false claims on the LinkedIn profile of an alleged Gamescom employee.

The profile of Gerald Bauser claims that he "supervises programs" for Grand Theft Auto V and Table Tennis Tournament 2, a Guild Wars game for consoles, and a Valve title labelled "Coming Soon (in progress)".

Various reports had picked up on the profiles claims, despite numerous discrepancies such as a selective career history, and multiple spelling errors.

It is, however, fake - venue Koelnmesse has confirmed to NowGamer that Bauser is "not a member or manager of the official staff of gamescom" or partner BIU.

Does that mean GTA 5 or a new Valve game won't be at Gamescom in mide August? Perhaps, but hopefully not.

Rockstar won't be in a position to show more GTA 5 footage 'for a while yet':

Rockstar may have brightened up this afternoon with two new Grand Theft Auto 5 screens, but don't expect to be seeing a new trailer any time soon.

As part of a newly published Q&A on its official site, the studio explained the lack of news about the game and the asset blackout that has followed GTA 5's reveal trailer last November.

"We are very busy working on the game! Everything is going well, but the game is a huge project. We should have more information and some new assets for you soon.

"As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don't do this because we 'don't care about our fans' 'don't respect our fans' 'hate GTA fans etc' - precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it.

"The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet.

"We will try and get some more screens for you soon and then another trailer when we are ready."
