We get to meet part of the cast: the hero himself, the angel Urea, and Princess Flora, on top of the Demon King Giru, who died at the hands of the hero, at the cost of the hero’s own life.
The game is actually based on a very original concept: in normal RPGs, as the story progresses the hero becomes stronger. In The Hero Must Die. it’s the opposite. Once he’s revived by the gods after his duel with the Demon King at the beginning of the game, he has five days left to live.
During those five days, he will weaken progressively, until his HP and MP are reduced to one. He will also forget his magic and he will be unable to use heavy armor, needing the help of companions in battle.
The hero’s death on the sixth day is said to be unavoidable, and his funeral will be the ending of the game, also serving as the evaluation of the player’s actions, that will change the story radically. This gives the game a vast replay value, as the player can explore the different choices and outcomes.
The differences with the original game for mobile phones have also been detailed: there will be two new heroines, and the contents of the game will be approximately twice as big, with new scenarios written by Shoji Masuda, that will increase the amount of choices and make the story branch in more ways.
New music will also be added, on top of new voice acting.
