La giornata è ancora lunga.Preview, Gameplay trailer?![]()
Based on what I’ve played, Princess Peach: Showtime is wholly its own thing, decoupled from the traditional Mario game entirely, and throughout my time with it I found myself really impressed with how different and special each stage looked and felt. More importantly, I didn’t find myself asking questions like “where is Mario?” or “when is Bowser going to show up?” because I didn’t need them to be there for this game to work despite Peach being inextricably connected to those characters for decades. I’m excited to see the rest of her unique transformations, or if some of my favorites like Swordfighter and Ninja Peach will get additional levels. Or, uh, second acts. Pun intended. Showtime is definitely for the younger crowd, but so are many of the best Nintendo games, and as an older Nintendo fan currently raising a younger Nintendo fan at home, I’m hoping the final game can keep up the momentum throughout its entire experience, because I really love what it’s doing so far.
I like the idea of a game themed around different character costumes, and the roster may yet offer some of the playfulness I hoped to see more of when Princess Peach: Showtime! first begins. After 18 years and as one of the last new Nintendo titles to launch on Switch, the Mushroom Kingdom's princess deserves an appropriate swansong.
-------------------------------------------------------------Princess Peach: Showtime might be on the simpler side and not provide much challenge for older players (or even younger), but its charming levels, steady stream of surprises, and variety of mechanics have me excited to see what’s behind the curtain in the final game.ù
I hope that idea resonates with kids — and there’s a good chance it might. Based on what I’ve played so far, Princess Peach: Showtime! feels like a good-natured start to a solo series in the same vein as the original Luigi’s Mansion. It makes a long-overdue case for Peach as a capable heroine that never really needed saving at all; she just needed time to show what she could do.
-------------------------------------------It’s not only all very charming but very imaginative too, in terms of the set pieces and variety. The problem is it all feels so slight. As enjoyable as it’ll probably be to play through, we’ve yet to see any evidence of any longevity – beyond the collectables and cosmetic unlockables they give you access to.
We hope the final game has a bit more meat on its bones because we’d hate to see such whimsical invention go to waste, but we’re not yet convinced this is Peach’s breakout role.
---------------------------------Ultimately, Princess Peach: Showtime is a shining star of all things Nintendo game design. It's so simple that anyone can pick it up, but it's so well done that anyone of any age will enjoy chasing its secrets, engaging in its transformation, and being the star of the show. Luckily, Princess Peach: Showtime's release date is right around the corner, so fans don't have to wait long for the spotlight
One concerning thing I noticed during my playtime, however: Princess Peach: Showtime! was running pretty rough on Nintendo Switch. Loading screens and other transitional moments ran at a very choppy frame rate, a technical issue I was very surprised to see in a first-party Nintendo game. Hopefully those performance issues can be ironed out before launch.
