Following the intriguing reveal of Shin Megami Tensei V, many have been wondering about what kind of development progress there has been on the game, and when we’ll hear more.
Today, as part of a massive New Year group interview, the Japanese website 4Gamer got an answer from Shin Megami Tensei series Producer Kazuyuki Yamai.
Yamai-san explains that this is the first time on a long time that a numbered Shin Megami Tensei game gets released on home consoles, so he aims to develop it properly, without making any compromise.
Currently, details are being filled up, art is being created, and the process is in the “scrap and build” phase, iterating the gameplay on the actual console. We also hear that he’d like to have a formal reveal as soon as possible, and he would be pleased if fans could be patient for a while.
For those unfamiliar with the “scrap and build” expression, it’s actually rather typical of Japan. It’s a very relevant local concept for architecture and urban development: instead of renovating buildings, the Japanese often prefer to knocking them down and build completely new ones on the land. Basically, the team is in a phase of iteration and trial and error. It definitely fits the “no compromise” policy mentioned by Yamai-san.
If you want to see more of the game (basically everything there is to see), you can check out the teaser trailer released in October.
Shin Megami Tensei V doesn’t have a release window or even a year at the moment, but we do know that it has been announced exclusively for the Nintendo Switch and that it will be released in the west.
Released late last year in Japan, Strange Journey Redux features redone voicework and new artwork for characters and demon designs. Character portraits will also now contain more animation, such as using different facial expressions throughout the game. New musical tracks will be added to the remaster as well.
One major gameplay change we're looking forward to in Strange Journey Redux is the ability to save anywhere and three different difficulty options to choose from. Interface tweaks have also been made, in addition to new skills and other elements.

The United Nations responded by tasking a team of highly advanced specialists with piercing the anomaly and figuring out how to stop it from the source. Well, get ready to don your Demonica once again in this new, expanded port. Expect new story content, additional endings, a new dungeon to explore, and more in the return of this sci-fi tinged SMT adventure.
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux features:
A Stranger Journey Back - In Strange Journey Redux, you play as a brave United Nations soldier investigating a spatial anomaly called the Schwarzwelt--a dome of dark energy that threatens to consume the world. Inside, you'll find it home to a nightmare mirror of our own Earth, populated with demons dying to meet you. The game touts brand-new illustrations by Masayuki Doi, updated visuals, UI tweaks, and more to make this journey back into the Schwarzwelt ... even stranger.
Additional Story Content and a Brand-new Character - You won't be retreading the same nightmarish path as before because a brand-new character named Alex will play a major role in how the story unfolds. Much about her is a mystery, but there is one thing you know for sure: she's got a bone to pick with you. Joining her are new demons you might recognize from other SMT entries, new endings, and a new dungeon to discover.

While more and more people continue to sign on, Atlus has rounded up a considerable amount of staff, and it feels like we have reached a turning point where we can say the game is actually “in the making.”As the first console game in a long time, Atlus wants to create grand content that people can thoroughly enjoy playing on their TV.
On the otherhand, Atlus also wants to include a carefreeness only a handheld system can provide, like enjoying demon fusion while laying down.
The goal is a title made for both a console and a handheld.
Atlus wants to include a lot of demons, as well as make a game suited to the hardware’s specifications.
Three times the amount of effort is being put into demons compared to previous titles.
