Secrets


  1. Open the wall behind the BFG in the ovoid room in the south of the map. There are several goodies to help you defeat the Cyberdemon that teleports in.
  2. Open the left wall inside secret 1 to reveal a second invulnerability sphere. The sector it rests on counts as a secret, but due to its height it cannot be reached by normal means, and thus must be triggered by turning clipping off and walking over it or by jumping onto it (in certain source ports).
  3. The door that opens into secret 2 also counts as a secret sector, but because of its thinness it's also impossible to trigger it normally. The only way to register it is by walking over it in noclip mode.
  4. Flipping the skull switch directly across from secret 1 opens a secret room in the stairway to the east.

Walkthrough

At the beginning, turn around to find a chainsaw. Go back and jump down the ledge. Go through the white corridor and turn right into a corridor. Go through it and enter the door near the imp cage. Flip the switch.

Secrets

  1. In the blue room, flip both switches. (Should you inadvertently lower the platforms, just walk up to where the second switch was and activate it.) Not only will you be able to collect the clips, a compartment containing a suit of green armor and two stimpacks will open.
  2. In the large room at the end, open the back wall of the lift and flip the switch to open a door leading outside.
  3. Jump off onto the square platform below. A compartment containing a rocket launcher will open behind the health bonuses room out in the hallway.
  4. Go outside, where you will find a shotgun and shells.
  5. In the big room, between the imp cage and the door leading outside, is a secret compartment containing a stimpack.

Walkthrough

Travel across the river and go up the stairs. Open the door. Go left in the small corridor and follow it along. Press the switch. Go back out to the entrance room with the river. Follow the river along to the left until you reach a room with a house and an opening to the sky. Follow the walkway along to the end where there is an opening in the house. Use the "run" key to jump the gap into the house. Climb the stairs and pick up the red key, then return to the entrance room.

Go through the same door entered before. Follow the corridor to the other end (turn right) where there are red key bars. Open the bars and press the switch. Follow the river in the opposite direction to previously. Take the second right turning where there is a grey area of wall with a barrel.

You will enter a room with two holes in the floor. Take the hole opposite the entrance to the room. You will find yourself in a dark room. Pick up the blue key in this room and go through the door to the next room. Follow this room along to the blue door. Go through the blue door and up the stairs. There is another blue door approximately opposite. Go through this door and press the exit switch.

Secrets

  1. At the top of the staircase inside the structure the red keycard is found in, open the west wall just south of the alcove the key was resting in. Behind this wall is a small room containing a few sergeants, a combat armor vest, and a teleport shortcut back to the start of the level.

Walkthrough

Enter the door straight ahead of you at the start of the level. Go down the stairs and through the doorway at the bottom, then ascend another set of stairs. Follow the path left, along past the lift to the end. There is a small river of water crossing the path - follow it left to get a combat armor. Return to the lift you passed earlier and ride it up.

In the next area, go straight down some stairs, across the water, back up another set (secret #1 can be reached from here), and down some more into the structure, where a chaingun lies. Continue going forward, up yet another set of stairs, to get the blue key. Enter the blue door on the right and follow the corridor to its end, where a switch is found. Press the switch, which causes a bridge to rise in the water area, and exit through the blue door next to it. Go right, going down and then up the stairs again. On the far side, turn around and walk on the ledge to reach the bridge that rose. Cross it and go through the teleport.

In the next area, go through the door, then drop down into the grassy pit (snipe the Demons on the far ledge now if you wish). Pick up the red keycard in the center. There are two switches on the west end of this pit. The left switch opens a room on the far end of the pit that contains some armor bonuses, but also releases several monsters. The right switch lowers a lift to the left that takes you up to the red door. Go through the red door to reach the exit switch.

Secrets

  1. Upon reaching the watery outdoor area, you'll find a "well" set against the southern wall of the southern pool. In order to get into the secret area, the player must run along the raised walkway which leads into the level's final teleporter. Alternatively, it is possible to straferun into the "well" from the stairway leading down into the water. If playing the game with a source port that allows jumping, the player can simply jump into the well.

Walkthrough

Go through the door in front of you at the start of the level. In the next hall, go straight up the short staircase and flip the switch in the room at the top. This lowers the blue keycard later in the level. Return to the hallway and head to the other end (secret #1 is on the way) and through the door. To the left is a locked blue door, so continue right along the path until you reach the blue keycard. After you've retrieved it, head back the way you came. On your way back, you will be ambushed by a group of imps from a newly opened closet. Head back to the blue door by continuing to follow the path or by going through secret #2.

On the other side of the blue door, flip the light switch next to the door if you like. Make your way to the end of the hall and through the next door. In the next room, stand on the small box in the corner near the door to cause a crate in the middle of the room to lower. Ride it back up to get the red keycard. Go through secret #3 for a shortcut back to the red door near the beginning of the level.

Pass through the two red doors and walk along the walkway to get the yellow keycard. Be prepared, as you will be ambushed by several chaingunners when you pick it up. Drop down to the left side of the walkway you are on and follow the tunnel to a teleporter, and go through. When you reach the other side, flip the switch on the wall to raise the exit walkway. Go through the teleporter to your left to be teleported back onto the raised walkway. Go through the now-accessible yellow door to the exit switch.

Secrets

  1. At the far end of the first "L"-shaped hallway is a wall with blue triangles on it (just right of the second window with moving shutters). Open this wall to access the areas behind the shutter windows.
  2. Just before the platform where the blue keycard is found is an area with a seemingly inescapable pool of brown sludge. In fact, there is a misaligned texture on the northern wall of the pit that can be opened to get out. Inside is a super shotgun and ammo.
  3. From the crate the red keycard is resting on, drop down to the left. There is a secret teleport that takes you to an area earlier in the level.

Walkthrough

Walk straight ahead at the start to get the soul sphere. Stay away from the walls in this room, as there are several sinking platforms that face you with imps and little else of value. Head left towards the door at the end of the room (you may want to get secret #1 on the way for some serious firepower). When you reach the "door", you'll find that it, too, is a sinking platform.

At this point you are faced with a dark corridor with a three-way fork in the path:

The left path, through a door with a lighted arrow pointing at it, contains a winding hallway with a soul sphere, as well as secret #2, at the end.

The right path leads to a short hall with a series of doors. Flip all the switches behind the doors to open two exits out of this area, as well as a closet with a combat armor. One of the exits is a shortcut to a much later part of the level, but it bypasses a required keycard, so return to the fork.

Whether you choose to go left and/or right or not, you'll ultimately need to go down the center path in the fork. At the end is a lift leading up into another, more well-lit room. Go through the door on the left side of the room to get behind the barred area. Follow this around to the right to reach the red keycard. Continue down the watery tunnel and drop down into the waste tunnels. Straight ahead is the red door, but you can explore the branching tunnels if you like. Go through the red door to face the first Hell Knight of the game. After defeating him, pick up the blue keycard and proceed through a second red door, along the path, and through the blue door on the left.

Behind the blue door, continue left or right around the wall, then along the edge to the yellow keycard. Upon picking it up, two walls will open up, revealing Cacodemons. After dealing with them, you can either explore secret #3 or go straight along the bridge and through the yellow door to exit the level.

Secrets

  1. After leaving the first room, you'll be in a corridor with a row of windows in front of you. Run through the leftmost window to reach a platform overlooking the outdoor area beyond. Upon entering the room adjacent to this platform, a wall will open revealing some sergeants. After dealing with them, open the northern wall of this room to re-access the room you came from. However, upon doing so, a floor will lower at the far wall straight ahead of you. Quickly run into this hole to obtain the first plasma rifle in the game.
  2. In the pitch black room with flashing lights, enter the door the lighted arrow is pointing to (on the northern wall). Behind it is a twisting corridor which eventually leads to a soul sphere. Open the wall behind the soul sphere to reveal a berserk pack.
  3. When approaching the yellow keycard in the final room, two walls will open on the southern wall, releasing Cacodemons. After dispensing with them, you can enter either of the two holes they emerged from (both lead to the same area) by running in from the higher platform. Inside are some imps and ammunition.

Walkthrough

From the starting position, work your way straight forward through the forest of pillars to the lift on the far side (you may want to pick up the megasphere from secret #1 on the way), fighting enemies along the way. Once at the bottom of the lift, flip the switch to crush whatever enemy is under the huge crusher to make things easier for yourself. Once the monster (Spider Mastermind in UV mode)is dead, you can pick up the plasma rifle under the crusher if you so desire. Now ride the lift you came from back to the top. This time, run through the opening in the bars in front of you and you'll land on a small platform with a switch on it. Flip this switch to lower a lift at the far end of this room with a blue keycard on it. Run over and pick up the keycard, and ride the lift up. Follow the hallway around to a soul sphere. Drop down and ride the lift back up to the starting room. You can enter secret #2 before you return if you wish.

Be careful in the starting room, as a closet has opened releasing many enemies that may be lurking among the pillars. Open the blue door at the north end of the room and flip the switch to lower the lift. The lowered lift exposes a small hidden room with some armor bonuses you can pick up if you wish. Ride this lift up, and follow the hallway past the red door to the end. Open the door here, flip the switch to lower the floor, and continue through a second door. In the next room, continue up the stairs, fighting the enemies released by the opening walls as you ascend. As you near the top of the spiral staircase, be cautious not to fall into the lava as it is inescapable. At the top of the stairs, hop onto the next platform and grab the red keycard. Before returning to the red door, you may want to enter secret #3.

On your way back to the red door, beware of some recently released imps. Once outside, continue along the path under the Stonehenge-like structures to the next door. Again, the lava here is inescapable, so be careful. Once through the last door you'll arrive in a large, dark, square room. Before you do anything else you may want to kill the spectres in the slime moat to keep from getting in your way later on. Make your way to the opposite corner of this room and flip the switch next to the yellow keycard to lower it. When you pick it up, the central structure in the room opens, causing several enemies to teleport in from all directions. Once they're dealt with, enter any of the teleporters along the perimeter of the room to be taken to the inside of the central structure. Flip the switch to raise a bridge to the yellow door on the west side of the large room. Open it and kill the demon to exit.

Secrets

  1. In the starting room with several pillars, locate the pillar with the lightning bolt symbol on it in the southeast corner of the room. This pillar can be lowered manually to reveal a megasphere.
  2. In the room containing the crusher, drop down into the river of nukage in the center and follow it to the end, where a secret room holding a teleporter can be found.
  3. While ascending the spiraling staircase leading to the red keycard, two alcoves will open, revealing enemies. The first contains chaingunners, the second revenants. From the top of the staircase, drop down into the alcove the chaingunners were in. Open the wall with the lightning bolt symbol to reveal a secret area.

Walkthrough

Press the switch. Kill all the Mancubi and walls will lower, revealing Arachnotrons. Kill them all and you will be able to end the level by pressing the eye switch in the middle of the map. Use the blur spheres to avoid the monsters.

Secrets

  1. The only secret in this level is the area surrounding the exit switch. Therefore, it is impossible to exit the level without triggering the secret.

Walkthrough

First, go through the southern door and you'll be in a room with many Barons of Hell and a Cyberdemon. Once the Cyberdemon sees you, he'll start firing, hitting the Barons, who will fight back. While they're fighting, pick up the soulsphere here. If all the Barons between you and the Cyberdemon have been killed, move in front of another batch so the rockets hit them instead of you, and the fighting should continue until the Cyberdemon has been killed. Once the Cyberdemon is dead or there are too few Barons to kill him, pick up the invulnerability sphere nearby and kill the remaining enemies. Once the coast is clear, drop down to where the cyberdemon originally was and pick up the yellow skull key, flipping the switch behind it in order to get back to the starting area. Be careful upon re-entering the center room, as some Barons may have accidentally teleported from the previous room.

Back in the center room, open the yellow door and follow the path along until you reach the red skull key. The floor behind you will have sunk into a pit of sludge, keeping you from returning to the starting room. Arm yourself with your most powerful weapon and back into the alcove where the red skull key lies and pick it up. Once you do, the walls start lowering, unleashing a slew of enemies. Clear a path to the northeast corner of this room and pick up the invulnerability sphere. Clear out the rest of the enemies and flip the switch in the northwest corner of the room to raise the bridge to the center room again.

At this point you can exit, although much of the level remains unexplored (and is completely optional). Check the secrets section below for descriptions of the optional areas. Once you're ready to exit, open the red door in the center room. You may want to save here, as the next obstacle is easy to mess up, resulting in inescapable death. In order to reach the exit door, you must run across the platforms floating in the sludge. Once you step on one, however, it begins sinking, so speed is essential. Once you've successfully reached the other side, open the exit door, kill the demon, and flip the switch.

Secrets

  1. Through the southwest door in the starting room is a long hallway with a chainsaw at the end. When the chainsaw is picked up, a secret room opens directly in front of it.
  2. This one is a bit involved. First, flip the switch at the far end of the cacodemon room (through the northern door in the starting room). Next, return to the starting room and enter the northeastern door. The northern wall of this room has three alcoves in it. Enter any of them to cause a staircase to rise on the other side of the room. Hit both switches at the top of the stairs to open a secret passage back in the center alcove.
  3. After exploring the rusty metal halls in secret #2, the diamond-shaped room adjacent to it will open up even larger, releasing several enemies. After dealing with the enemies, shoot the marble demon face wall to reveal a BFG 9000.
  4. Through the eastern door in the starting room is a small room with a lion-faced wall and two teleports on either side. Shoot the lion face to access a third teleport taking you to a secret platform in a new area.
  5. After passing through any of the three teleports in the lion face room, you'll be taken to an isolated area. There is a pillar with two gargoyle heads in the center of this room. Shoot the northern face of the pillar to open an alcove in the southern end of the room.
  6. Same as #5, but shoot the southern face to open an area in the northern end of the room. Be careful, as both of these secrets will reveal pain elementals in addition to the secrets.
  7. In the same isolated area as secrets #4-#6, drop down into the brown sludge pit and open the red wall on its northern end to access a system of slime tunnels.

Walkthrough

From the "+"-shaped platform in the center of the slime, lower the lift to the north and ride it up. Continue straight to the end of the corridor and flip the switch at the end, raising a chunk of the floor behind you. Ride the nearby lift up, flip the switch at the top, and jump across to the raised floor. Creep along the east wall and into the raised corridor now reachable via the newly heightened floor. Head outside and kill the enemies (secrets #3-5 are accessible from here as well). Return to the previous area to find that a new section of wall has opened up. Flip the switch here to lower two more walls, unleashing a monster ambush. Once the last of the enemies have been dealt with, flip the last switch in the western alcove to open the nearby wall. From where you are, drop down onto the Hell Knight's platform and flip the switch. This causes a stair to raise, allowing you to reach this platform from below as well. Walk off this platform and a nearby lift will lower, allowing you to get the blue keycard. Open the blue door back on the platform and flip the switch to open the northwest wall. Climb the stairs and hop through.

Inside this next area you'll be faced with a three-sided switch. The west and southeast faces open optional areas, some of which contain secrets. Whether or not you decide to explore them, you'll ultimately need to flip the northeast switch, which opens the southwest wall. Drop into the slime pit and go left into the stone tunnel. Flip the switch to lower another platform in the slime pit area, and step onto it before it rises again. Pick up the yellow keycard in the back, then turn left and flip the switch at the end of the short tunnel. This lowers the third platform in the slime pit, so once again drop down and get on before it rises. Flip the last switch, located on the wall, to lower the first platform once again. Ride it back up to the three-sided switch room. Open the southeast wall of this room as you would a door, and head all the way back to the platform you started the level on.

Once back in the starting pit, lower the east or south lifts and go through the yellow door at the top. Kill the enemies in your way and drop into the darkened pit. Pick up the health bonuses on the bright red cross, the head through the exit door and flip the switch.

Secrets

  1. Take the tallest (western) lift at the start of the level and follow the narrow passageway at the top to its end. The inner walls of the passageway open up, revealing a much larger room with a brown slime pit in its center. Hit the switch at the far end of where the passageway was to raise a bridge crossing the slime pit. The rocket launcher platform midway across this bridge counts as a secret.
  2. Continue across the bridge from secret #1. The ledge on the far side is a secret.
  3. In the northeastern corner of the map, there is an outdoor area containing a circular structure surrounded by a moat of brown slime. Fall into the moat to cause the platform surrounding the circular structure to lower.
  4. Follow the platform from secret #3 around the circular structure to its north side, which has a door leading to another secret area inside the structure.
  5. Inside secret #4, open the wall with yellow lights at the bottom (right in front of the entrance door) to reveal a closet containing a BFG 9000.
  6. After hitting the blue switch, a new area opens up in the previous room. Inside this new area is a triangular column with a switch on each of its three sides. Flip the switch on the western side of this column to open a door in the northeast of this room. In the next area, there is a fork in the path. The right side leads down a staircase to a teleport taking you back to the fork. Instead, take the left; a series of tall "stairs" that is actually made of lifts. When you move onto the first "step", the next one lowers; when you move onto the second the third lowers, and so on. When the final "stair" lowers, a secret platform will be revealed. Take the goodies here and step through the teleport to be taken back to the top of this area.

Walkthrough

Right at the start of the level, open the blue-triangled wall ahead and to the right. Inside is a shotgun and some ammo. Continue down the stairs and relatively straight through the opening in the stone wall. You can lower the vine-covered column here to reveal a chaingun and stimpacks as well as a few spectres. Continue through this room and out the opening leading outside. Go through the tan door to the left. The next room is dark and contains several silver alcoves and holds dozens of zombies (secrets #1-6 are located in this area). One of the alcoves in the southeastern end of this room contains a yellow key. Pick it up and return outside.

Make your way to the opposite end of the long outdoor area and open the door there. The next room is very large and dark, and is home to several imps, revenants, and arachnotrons. Go through either of the tunnels at the north end of this room and you'll reach a stairway leading into a brightly lit alcove in the wall. Climb the stairs and the wall in front of you will open, revealing a blue keycard. Pick it up and return outside once more. If the wall containing the blue key closes, you can open it manually.

Once back outside, enter the round central room via the passage in the wall at about the midpoint of the outdoor area. Continue through the door to the south into another dark room. Clear the area of enemies, then head through the yellow door in the southwest corner. Proceed through another short room and through the blue door. Continue through one last hallway, through the exit door, and flip the end switch. In the last two rooms be aware of the Cyberdemon on the other side of a barred window (HMP-UV mode)

Secrets

Although it does not count towards the secret percentage, the wall with blue triangles on it in front of you at the start of the level can be opened to reveal a secret passage leading to a shotgun and some health bonuses.

  1. In the northeast corner of the map is a large chamber with several silver alcoves in the walls. The back wall of most of these alcoves has four small UAC logo panels. However, others have a single large UAC logo. The first of such is located on the north wall of alcoves, near the northeast corner of the room. Shoot the back wall to open a secret area behind it, containing a soul sphere.
  2. The same as secret #1, but located in the alcove on the east side of the westernmost column in the center of the room. Behind the wall are some light amplification goggles and a combat armor vest.
  3. The same as secrets #1 and #2, located in the alcove on the western wall of the southernmost column in the center of the room. Behind the wall is a single bulk cell.
  4. Across from and a bit south of secret #3 is another alcove with a shootable back wall with a berserk pack behind it.
  5. An alcove in the southeast corner of the same room as secrets #1-4 contains a switch. Flip it to open a secret shortcut to another area of this level.
  6. Directly across from the alcove the yellow key is found in is yet another alcove with a shootable back wall. The passage behind it leads to a wall with baron of hell faces on it.
  7. Open the wall mentioned in secret #6 and step through to be teleported to yet another secret area. Before exiting this area, pick up the invulnerability sphere and box of bullets to your left and right, respectively.
  8. Near the center of the level is a large circular area with four ovoid "fuel tanks" in its center. Enter this room through the passage on the east side to open the fuel tank on the west side of the room.
  9. The same as secret #8, but enter from the western passage to open the eastern fuel tank.
  10. The same as secret #9, but enter from the south passage to open both center fuel tanks. Both are counted as separate secrets.
  11. See secret #10.
  12. From the "fuel tank" room mentioned above, go through the western exit and follow the fork in the path to the right. You'll be taken to a room with a pair of nukage pools. On one of the wall near the entrance to this room is a wall with a brown upside-down triangle on it. Simply pass close to this triangle to open a secret passage in the nukage pool on the left. At the end is a series of three platforms leading up to a megasphere, each of which counts as a secret.

  15. There is a large dark room in the eastern side of the level which has a single blue light on the ceiling. In the southeast corner of this room is a wall that lacks the yellow lights on the walls surrounding it. Open it to reveal a secret passage leading to another room.
  16. After passing through the shortcut in secret #15 and arriving in the new room, follow the wall on your right until you come to a pair of green columns. Open the wall between these columns (its texture appears slightly different from those around it) to reveal yet another secret area.
  17. From secret #16, continue west in this room until you reach a UAC door in the northwest corner. Go through the door and pick up the rocket launcher to the right. From the platform the rocket launcher was on, run onto the platform straight ahead of you holding the security armor.
  18. In the same room as secret #17, but on the opposite side, is a raised alcove with a pair of rocket boxes in it. Simply use the wall below this alcove as you would a lift to lower the rocket boxes.
To get the seemingly unreachable soul sphere in the south end of the level (which does not count towards the secrets score), press the back wall of the northern alcove (just across from the switch that lowers the lift next to you).

Walkthrough

Proceed along the walkway to your right and take a right across the bridge into a rusty metal area. Climb the stairs and take out the arachnotrons and cacodemons that attack. Proceed up either staircase into the structure ahead of you. Once you pass through the doorway inside the structure, the first arch-vile of the game is released. Take cover behind either side of the door if needed. Once it's been killed, re-enter the room and pick up the blue keycard. Now return to the main area of the level.

Make your way along the walkway to the opposite end of the area and go through the blue door. Flip the switch to raise a ledge just outside. Continue through this room, up the small staircase, and along the newly risen ledge. Flip the satyr-faced switch and return to the main area once again. Continue along the walkway to the left about halfway, and across the newly created bridge to the red keycard.

Drop down into the slime to the northwest of the central circular walkway and head through the red door. Proceed through the hallway, towards the iron bars (which will automatically open), and up the stairs, arriving at a wooden skull switch. Flip it to lower a platform just outside. From the new platform, drop onto the cement walkway and continue along it, eventually dropping into a dark cave. Dispose of the flying enemies here and head through the brightly lit tunnel in the structure ahead. You should now be in a "3"-shaped watery room. Ride the lift in the upper prong of the "3" up to a switch. Press it, ride the lift back down, and run into the timed lift that just lowered in the lower prong of the "3". Press the switch there to open the gate to the exit switch. The teleport near the switch will take you back to the main area (on a ledge with an otherwise unreachable soul sphere, if you need it).

Secrets

  • The first secret does not count towards the level's final score, but does contain an artifact. From the start, follow the path along to the right and take the next right through the doorway into a new area. You should be facing a set of stairs. Turn around, and look for the pool of blood on the ground to the left of the doorway you entered from. The wall behind the blood can be walked straight through in order to get the soul sphere behind it.

  1. From the secret above, turn back around and ascend the stairs. When you reach the top, a lift will lower back at the bottom of the stairs, along the south wall. Ride this lift up to a chaingun. To the left of the chaingun is a wall with pipes on it. Open this wall and follow the tunnel to the end, where you'll land on an otherwise unreachable platform with a blur sphere on it.
  2. After retrieving the blue keycard, return to the main area (the "O"). Along the eastern wall in the northern half of the nukage lake, a small opening will have opened. Go through and take the teleporter at the end to reach the Imp's platform.
  3. After passing through the red door, you'll go through a set of automatically-opening metal bars. The wall alongside the northernmost bar can be opened when the bars are opened. Take the passage out to the Hell Knight's cage, containing an invulnerability sphere.

Walkthrough

Enter the red brick building ahead of you via the lift. As you proceed through this building, platforms along the walls will raise, ambushing you with imps, so be cautious. Continue through the door at the end of this building. Once you're back outside, follow the tan brick building ahead of you around to the left. You'll pass a smaller brick building to the south - you can enter it for some items if you wish, but it's not necessary to complete the level. Continue circling the larger building until you reach a door in the west. Enter it and drop down inside. Hang a right, following the path between the two blue doors (be careful of the Mancubus hiding in the alcove. At the next split in the path, turn right, snipe at the arachnotron on the ledge, taking cover if you need to, and pick up the blue keycard beneath it.

From the blue key, turn around and head in the opposite to this hallway's end. At the end of this corridor, you'll see a small square structure just ahead. Enter the door on the side, kill the chaingunner, and pick up the yellow key he was guarding. Now return to the blue doors, killing the mancubi on the way. The eastern door contains little of value, so entering it is completely up to you. Ultimately, open the western blue door and run through the hall before the floor lowers to get the bulk cell at its end. Once the floor has sunken, drop down and go through the teleporter, which leads back outside.

Enter the brown building north of the one you were just in, and proceed through the second, yellow-locked door. The next room contains nine automatically raising-and-lowering lift platforms, each containing a cacodemon that must be killed. Five of these alcoves have switches that you must flip to open the level exit (From left to right; the first, fourth, fifth, seventh, and ninth). After all five switches have been activated, a small passage in the northeast of this room will open, letting you access the exit teleport.

Secrets

  1. Enter the southern building (with the crates inside) and go up the stairs to the teleport, but do not go through yet. Instead, turn around and run onto the crate with the berserk pack on top. From here, run onto the platform with the switch, press it, and walk onto the lift that lowered. Ride it back up, and you'll be able to reach the high set of crates where the chaingun rests.
  2. Now take the teleporter mentioned in secret #1. Press the switch on the other side and ride the platform up and pick up the soul sphere here. You are now inside the main building.
  3. At the center of the main building, go through the southeastern blue door and follow the ceiling light's path across the brown sludge pool. Flip the switch at the end to open an area northwest of the central pillar in the main part of this building.
  4. At the center of the main building, go through the southwestern blue door and take the teleporter inside the next area. After you arrive on the other side, instead of jumping down, turn around and drop into the hole to grab some ammo.

Walkthrough

From the start, head left around the grey brick wall next to you. There is a huge arrow drawn on the ground near here. Follow it up the stairs and into the door at the top. Inside, make your way to the northwest corner of this storage area and drop into a lower corridor. At the end of the hall is a silver wall which lowers as a lift. Ride it up into a room with several gargoyle faces. Ignore the teleporter for now, and instead drop through the shaft in the alcove next to it. Follow the narrow hallway through another door into a tall room. Get the blue key here and go through the teleporter ahead (or through the one in the green structure to a secret area).

Now make your way through the warehouse again and return all the way to the gargoyle-faced room. Go through the teleporter we passed over earlier, and you'll arrive on a ledge surrounding a building in the middle of the level. Make your way along the ledge to the opposite side and go through the blue door. Inside, you can run across the tops of the crates to get the invulnerability sphere if you so desire. In any case, drop down and go through the teleporter there. This takes you to the top of a tall building in the north. Grab the red keycard in front of you and drop down to the ground.

Go all the way to the southeastern corner of the map and enter the black building there through the red door. At the back of this room is a tall lift. Approach it and it will slowly lower. Once it reaches your level, ride it all the way back up to the top. From the top of the lift, you can drop down to the right onto the yellow keycard. Once you've gotten it, return outside once more. The building locked by the yellow key is in the northwest corner of the map, just south of the "crusher" with the plasma rifle. Enter it and step into the lava square to exit.

Secrets

  1. Go to the black-walled building to the right in front of you at the start of the level, and ride the lift to the roof. Enter the door on the left to go inside. Inside, there are two raised platform with a pit in the middle. Run across to the opposite raised platform from the one you are on.
  2. Now go to the large red brick building in the southwestern corner of the map, and once inside move to the southwest corner. Make your way around some crates and you will find a switch. It opens a door to a secret area located outside.
  3. Right next to the switch in secret #2 is a pile of small grey crates. Press these to lower them and reveal a second switch. This raises a set of stairs on the opposite side of the crates you are next to. Walk up these stairs to be teleported to near the beginning of the level, up on an otherwise unreachable wall. Run along this wall into the building ahead to get the soul sphere there.
  4. Back in the red brick building, follow the hallway in the northwest corner to an elevator. Ride it up. There will be a gargoyle-faced wall directly in front of you. Open it to reveal a small closet.
  5. From secret #4, drop down the hole in the northwest corner of the room, and follow the tunnel. Behind the door, go up the stairs and through the teleporter. You will end up in another secret area.
  6. Return to secret #4, but go through the teleporter right next to it. Follow the ledge around and go through the blue door. On the floor inside this building is a small crate. Flip the switch on it to lower the chainsaw next to you.
  7. After you have the blue keycard, go to the building just south of the building that secret #5 teleported you to. Open the blue door and you will have access to a secret sniping area (the "windows" are one-sided, so deathmatch players will not be able to see you - however, monsters still can).
  8. At the northern end of the map are 3 long alleyways with artifacts at the end. Between the center and eastern of these alleyways, but on the opposite side (to the south) is a brown/gray striped wall/building. Open the very center of this wall to reveal a secret containing a combat armor.

Walkthrough

From the start, go right, the right down the staircase. Continue past the red door, around the next corner and through the door to the right. Step into the square of light in the next short corridor to open the doors. Go through the one straight ahead. Continue around the building to the right. Go up the stairs and through the door to enter the building. Get a running start and jump through the largest window. You should land on a bridge on the far side of the grey stone barrier. Continue along, across the water and through the arched doorway, then take a left. At the end is the red skull key.

Return to the red door near the start (if you fall into the water on your way, ride one of the many circular lifts up and drop onto land). Flip the switch behind the red door and red columns nearby will lower. Go through the door behind them and cross into the next outdoor area. Kill all the enemies here, then enter the building and get the blue skull key.

Return to the second outdoor area (in the east) once more and run through the window again, landing on the bridge. This time, head right after passing through the arched doorway. You'll reach a dead end with a window to the right. Run through the window and onto the adjacent platform (if you fall in the water, you can just use it like a lift). Continue along the next hallway to its end, then across the bridge to the blue door. After passing through it, continue straight forward through this building, running across the gaps, to reach the exit.

Walkthrough

At the start of the level, go through the green door to the left and ride the elevator down by flipping the switch inside. Once you reach the bottom, step outside. From here, turn left and flip the switch directly in front of you. This causes the large stone rectangle to lower, revealing a walkway up to a combat armor vest - it's a good idea to pick it up, due to the amount of snipers in this level. From here, follow the alley between the two buildings to the south, then turn southwest towards the tall dark brown iron building. At the far corner of this building is the start of a spiraling staircase leading to the top. Climb it and get the rocket launcher between the two green torches. Just west of this building is a small raised platform with a white teleport pad on it. Face it and run (by pressing shift, by default) towards it and you should land on the platform and go through the teleporter. You'll be taken to a high ledge on the side of a nearby building. Run forward along this ledge but let go of the run key just before you reach the end. You should land on another ledge a bit further below on a third building (it's tricky to get from the first to the second ledge, as full-speed running will cause you to overshoot the second ledge, so it may require several tries to perfect). Flip the lion-faced switch in front of you, then drop inside the building. Take the teleporter on the floor, and upon reaching the other side, turn around and re-enter the teleporter you just emerged from. You'll arrive on top of some crates in the previous building, with a red keycard easily in reach. Drop down between the crates to get a berserk pack, then exit this building through either the teleporter or the elevator in the opposite corner.

Once you're back outside, ride the lift up to the red door (in the grey and brown brick building at the east end of the "town". Follow the walkway to another teleporter and go through. You'll arrive in the large building in the center of the lava pit. From here, go right and flip the skull switch to lower the lift next to it. Ride up and continue along the path, turning left at the nearby entrance into the building. Drop in and pick up the BFG9000. This triggers an enemy ambush, so be prepared. After dealing with the monsters, enter the green alcove directly in front of where you picked up the BFG. The wall inside will open, revealing the yellow keycard. After you get it, flip the skull switch on the pillar and proceed up the newly raised stairs.

Once back on the high walkway circling this building, follow it to the south side of the building. From here you will be able to drop down to the ground on the far side of the lava pit - drop down to the far ground and go through the yellow door in the southwest building. Inside is a small lava river with three exits. First, grab the radsuit in the north-leading exit, then head to the end of the south-leading tunnel and flip the switch. Return to the main room, where some stairs will have risen. Follow them all the way to the top and flip the gargoyle-faced switch at the end to lower a lift leading up to the parapets at the top of this building. Follow the parapet east to another gargoyle-faced switch. Flip it, then return to the main room of this building again. There will be a lighted arrow on the floor and ceiling of the room pointing to one of the walls. Open the wall it points to to reveal the blue keycard.

From here, you may choose to exit to the secret level (see the secrets section for instructions on how to access the secret exit), or continue to the level's regular exit:

Return outside and follow the grassy ledge southeast to an iron "bridge" leading across the lava. Open the yellow bars midway through and enter the yellow door of the building at the far side. Once inside, walk straight ahead and the wall in front of you will lower. Follow the staircase up to another apparent "dead end"; once again, simply approach the wall and it will open like a door. Repeat this technique with the next wall, climb some more steps, and through one last wall at the top. Go through the blue door and follow the barred path to the exit teleporter, dodging imps' fireballs along the way.

Secrets

  1. From the platform the red keycard was on, drop down to the east to get a berserk pack. Lower the tan crate to get back out. An alternate way to get this secret is to lower the stack of two medium-sized grey crates in the corner of the room by pressing its northern side, and then ride it up and over the larger tan crate. You cannot get the red keycard this way, however.
  2. Go through the teleporter in the room with the red keycard and then follow the ledge outside to a shaft in the wall. Drop down into it while pushing against the north wall, and you will land on another ledge. From there run down onto a platform holding a chaingun.
  3. After passing through the red door, follow the corridor along until you reach the part where it gets narrower. Instead of going through the narrow passage, turn to your left and open the wall to reveal a secret cave.
  4. Once inside the building locked by a yellow key, follow the lava river south to the end, and flip the switch there. This raises a staircase back in the previous area. Walk up the first section of these stairs, but before turning left to continue up, open the corner wall in front of you. This reveals a secret teleporter (Note: due to an editing error, the secret area will not be triggered unless one walks on the teleport pad using no clipping. Otherwise, you'll go through the teleporter without causing the secret to register).
  5. At the end of the staircase mentioned in secret #4, ride the lift to the roof of the building. From the top of the lift, turn east and run as fast as you can through the opening in the parapet ahead. You should land on an elevated platform in the lava pit below. Flip the switch there. This opens a passage at the east end of the lava pit. Entering this secret opens the exit to the secret level (secret #11).
  6. Return to the roof of the building (from the previous secret) and follow the balcony north. Quickly drop back down to the lowest floor of this building and follow the lava river north through a small tunnel to a timed lift. Ride it up to another portion of the building's roof.
  7. Inside the southeastern building requiring the yellow keycard, walk straight ahead to lower a lift. Follow the path a short ways and start running up the stairs when you reach them. You will hear several doors open. When you get to the top of the stairs and across the bridge, make a u-turn to the left, and run across into the alcove with the megasphere.
  8. See secret #7 (this area counts as two secrets).
  9. When you run across the bridge mentioned in secret #10, a wall opens behind you. Go back and drop into the hole behind it.
  10. Take the teleporter in secret #9 to be taken to another secret area.
  11. Return to the building from secrets #4-9. Follow the lava river south again and enter the previously unopened tunnel leading to a teleport to the secret level, Wolfenstein.

Walkthrough

As the secret levels are based on levels from Wolfenstein 3D, the layout is fairly straightforward. From the start, go through the door ahead of you. Turn left and go through the door at the end of this hall. Continue through one last blue hallway and you'll arrive in a large grey room. Go through the door across from you once again. Proceed through the wooden hallway and through the door at its end. In the large wooden room, turn left, head through the door, around the bend in the next hall, and through another door. From the stone room, continue due south through another trio of doors. You will now come to an intersection; go left again. Once in the final room, you can either flip the exit switch in front of you, which takes you to MAP16: Suburbs, or see secrets #2-4 for instructions to the super-secret level, MAP32: Grosse

Secrets

Before listing the official secrets, there are a pair of hidden areas present in the original Wolfenstein game that do not count towards Doom's secret tally:

  • In the first wooden hallway, the back wall of the western alcove opens.
  • The painting of Hitler in the stone room in the northwest corner of the map opens.

  1. At the east end of the map is a blue, t-shaped hallway. Take the door at the south end of this hall into a room with several alcoves in the walls. The back wall of the southeastern-most alcove opens, revealing a decidedly non-Wolfenstein secret area containing a BFG9000, a megasphere, a super shotgun, and several backpacks.
  2. In the room with the exit elevator, rather than flipping the end switch, open the southwestern corner of the room to reveal a secret area with a medikit.
  3. Open the western wall in secret #2 for a soul sphere to reveal the secret exit elevator.
  4. Before hitting the secret end switch, open the southern wall of this last area to reveal a soul sphere.

Walkthrough

Go through the door in front of you to enter a large room with pillars and candles, as well as Wolfenstein SS Nazis on Hurt Me Plenty, Ultra-Violence, and NIGHTMARE! skill levels. Travel to the opposite side of this room. Once you get close to the door, a Cyberdemon will open the door and attack. Once you have killed (or, once you run from) the Cyberdemon, enter the room it was in and go through the door on the opposite side. Kill all four hanging Commander Keens and the panel behind them will raise. Jump across the gap with the sky floor and hit the switch to exit.

Secrets

  1. The southwestern pillar in the main room opens, revealing three chainguns.
  2. The southeastern pillar in the main room opens, revealing a megasphere.
  3. The northwestern pillar in the main room opens, revealing a BFG9000.
  4. The northeastern pillar in the main room opens, revealing a super shotgun and two boxes of shells.
  5. The center swastika on the western wall of the main area opens, revealing a cache of medikits and plasma cells.
  6. The center swastika on the eastern wall of the main area opens, revealing an invulnerability artifact.

Walkthrough

From the start, walk straight ahead and go through the door just around the corner. The outdoor area you'll arrive in consists of two small buildings inside a tall, circular, black barrier wall, as well as several buildings outside the wall. There are two exits in the black wall; go through either and make your way to the nukage pond in the southwest corner of the map. In the pool is a wooden structure with some stairs leading up to the blue skull key. Upon picking the key up, several monsters will teleport in, so be prepared.

At the north end of the map is a grey brick building; walk up the stairs in the corner and go through the lion-faced door around the corner at the top. Inside is a glowing blue/red wall as well as a blue key door. Open the blue door and pick up the red skull key inside. Next to the red key is a satyr face switch. Flip it; it lowers the glowing blue/red wall in the previous room, revealing a hidden teleporter. Run to it quickly, as it only lowers for a short time period. You'll be taken to an otherwise unreachable platform with some likely useful Plasma Guns.

Once you're ready to exit the level, make your way to the structure made of several black and gray "cubes" in the northeast. The two platforms with the more rectangular-shaped patterns on them lower like lifts, allowing you to access the highest ledge. Once you reach the top, turn around and lower the second lift platform again (while still on the top ledge). This causes the wall of the ledge you're on to lower as well, revealing the exit teleporter blocked by a red skull column; open it using your key and exit.

Secrets

  1. Enter the southern building in the central area in the level. Inside is a blue-carpeted room with a small pedestal-like structure in its center. Use this pedestal as you would a lift, and ride up. There is a small fiery hole in the eastern wall of this room. Shoot inside this hole to cause one of the bookshelves to rise, revealing a megasphere.
  2. Ride the same pedestal up again. Look through the doorway to the north and you'll see another nook in the wall, this one containing a pair of glowing red eyes. Shoot the eyes with the Super Shotgun (due to its wide spread). It may take a few tries. Once you hear the sound of a door opening, go through the doorway and turn right to enter a newly opened alcove.
  3. Enter the red brick building in the east of the map through the door on its eastern wall (facing the map perimeter). The corpse-wall behind the door is an illusion that can be walked straight through.
  4. Inside secret #3, lower the right grey stone wall (which is tinted slightly green) and ride it up. Once at the top, run onto the adjacent raised platform, into a pool of blood. Flip the switch to reveal a BFG 9000.
To get to the raised platform with the Plasma Guns on it, go inside the northernmost building. Behind the blue door is a red skull key sitting in a window. Stand in the window sill and press the satyr-faced switch to lower the big blue/red fire wall in the previous room, which reveals a teleporter. Step through to get the Plasma Guns.
