Of course, we can't talk about this content yet, but what we can say is that it is not accessed through a separate menu or launcher as you might have seen with other Xenoblade titles. You'll have to play through the main Xenoblade Chronicles X game to see the new content.

In quale senso? :sard:

Now in 2025, the Definitive Edition is set to launch and I’ve been able to play a decent handful of hours before our full review that will be published later, but I was hesitant to jump into this new world.

This comes partly from the game’s reputation as a time vampire with those who played the original reporting that it takes countless hours to get anything done.

Added to this is what I am loathed to call “anime nonsense”. This is a collection of tropes that have found there way into many games that kill my enjoyment of a title.

Anime nonsense includes, but is not limited to: hilariously bad clothing, children who are employed doing adult jobs, irritatingly long stretches of slow dialogue (plus appropriately long cutscenes), “joke” and mascot characters that only make you cringe, menus as gameplay, grunts and other non-verbal character noises used excessively, antagonists that have worse lines than early comic book supervillains and wearing high heels and impossibly tight clothing in battle.

Unfortunately I met every single item on that list, and more, in the opening hours of Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Now I don’t want to come off as a pure hater here. I am a pale white guy pushing 30 – of course I love anime and everything that comes out of Japan, but certain games and other pieces of media just rub me the wrong way. For games especially I feel like I’m not just being talked down to, but my time is being disrespected by a piece of software.

These bad first impressions continued in the combat. This isn’t a real time combat game but instead your character and party members will automatically attack enemies once a fight is initiated. Instead of doing the button-mashing fighting, you as the player control positioning and the use of abilities on cooldown called Arts and the QTE Soul Voice system which bestows various boosts during gameplay.

As this combat system was introduced I couldn’t help but feel like I would have much preferred a straight up normal real time system (watching characters wait between attacks is particularly infuriating) or a turn-based option would have been better. As it stands it already feels like this is a gimped turn-based game with needless complication.
