Level-5 boss Akihiro Hino hosted a Yokai Watch 2: Ganso and Honke-focused Nintendo Direct this morning.

In the original Yokai Watch, there was a train station that players could visit, but you couldn’t go past the ticket gate. But in Yokai Watch 2, players will be able to take the train to new areas, like a distant port town or village. When you take the train, you’ll be able to enjoy the scenery outside as the train heads towards its destination, and the route map is displayed on the lower screen as the train moves.

In the video, we see Keita and his ghost pals visit the port town of Nagisaki, which features a number of boats, a beach, and a cave. Additionally, Keita also travels to Kemamoto Village, which is filled with paddy fields, cattle, and water mills. There, players can forget the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere.

Within each station, players can find stamps to collect for the “Sakura Railway Stamp Rally.” In order to collect every stamp, players must visit a number of different stations.

A number of mini-games and side activities are also shown, including bike racing, pole climbing, Whimsy Gates, Bulletin Boards, Fox Marital Processions, and more.

Towards the end of the clip (22:38), you’ll get a first look at the game’s new action-based multiplayer mode “Yokai Watch Busters” at work, where up to four players can become yokai and cooperate to defeat demons running about Sakura New Town.

In addition to all of this, the Direct introduces a number of new yokai set to appear in the sequel, including Matenshi, Onigiri Samurai, Machigaeru, Kantestsu, Ittan Gomen, Akaname, Zashikiwarashi, Kudan, and others.

Watch the full video below. Yokai Watch 2 will launch in Ganso and Honke versions for 3DS next Thursday, July 10 in Japan.

Commento e spiegazioni al direct di cui sopra.

Yo-kai Watch 2: Head and Founder will be released soon in Japan, bringing new multiplayer features, time traveling, and a bunch of new yokai to the series. In a recent Yo-kai Watch 2-themedNintendo Direct, Level 5 shared new information on the game.

The Yo-kai Watch 2 Direct starts out with a brief introduction by Level-5 CEO and president Akihiro Hino, and also from series protagonist Keita Amano and his yokai buddy Whisper. Starting at 1:44, they explain what Yo-kai Watch is all about, highlighting the cross-media project that has been quite popular in Japan.

Next, they show off some of the basic gameplay in Yo-kai Watch, where you have to go around solving problems that are being caused by various yokai in town. They seem to do all sorts of mischievous things like hiding controllers and messing with the judgement of referees in sports.

At 5:35, Keita and Whisper show us what battles are like. You can spin through three different yokai to take on enemies, and special attacks require different stylus actions.

Starting at 10:30, we get to see some of the elements in Yo-kai Watch 2, introduced by Keita and Whisper, who gets excited at the fact that they can now ride the trains that were previously blocked off, as they show off some of the new areas. With different towns to visit using the train, Yo-kai Watch 2 seems to have a lot more to explore than the previous game did. Additionally, you can collect stamps by visiting different places.

The 14:10 mark starts a little section of the Yo-kai Watch 2 Direct that shows off some of the newest yokai to be introduced to the series. The Onigiri (rice ball) Samurai, is a pun on the word (oni = demon, giri = cut,) so he’s a yokai who cuts down demons, but looks like an onigiri.

Next, we see a little boss fight at 17:30. Powerful boss characters in Yo-kai Watch 2 can become new allies. Following at 18:00, we’re shown some of the other new elements in the game, like bicycle racing, a “red light green light” style mini-game, tunnel exploration, and a red box with mysterious… farting effects.

20:45 in the video shows some of the new story elements in the game, starting with the past of Sakura New Town, 60 years prior, where we’ll get to see how the Yokai Watch item was originally created.

We get a glimpse at the new multiplayer mode at 22:23, too, which can be played online. There’s also an action mode aspect to it called Yo-kai Watch Busters, where players play as various yokai to take on a powerful oni.

Yo-kai Watch 2: Head and Yo-kai Watch 2: Founder will be released in Japan on July 10, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

L'intervista:

Level-5 is considering the western expansion of Yokai Watch, its currently Japan-only 3DS game about a young boy or girl and their adventures with ghosts, “in a big way,” company boss Akihiro Hino told this week’s Famitsu.

While Hino didn’t go further into detail, he did discuss a bit about the latest games in the series, Yokai Watch 2: Ganso and Honke.

“When planning the first Yokai Watch, I already thought to release the sequel as 2 different versions.” Hino explained. “Children like having things that other people don’t have, so from a marketing perspective, having 2 versions is a good idea. Also, a lot of people play Yokai Watch with their parents. Where people would have some hesitation about getting 2 copies of the same game, if you have different versions, it’s a lot easier for them to buy both.”

Yokai Watch has become quite the hit in Japan, with the first game selling over one million copies and still going strong in the top 10 of the weekly Media Create sales charts, and with an anime and manga, too. According to Hino, kids like the franchise so much because main character Keita is normal and relatable.

“Keita isn’t a child who always does the right thing, but has his own flaws as well, like trying to watch naughty TV shows late at night or making fun of people,” Hino said. “Keita’s actions are depicting what is ‘normal’ for modern children. He’s not a good boy, but someone who says what he thinks. I believe that character setting made him very relatable to people.”
