According to the game's artist, Masato Kato, the game's difficulty was the result of an accident, however the development team decided to not try to fix the difficulty as they enjoyed it.

Samurai Shodown II

In the Devil's Island - Dinner battle stage, there is a large cauldron in the background being tended to by two creatures that resemble Gen-An Shiranui as they appear to be boiling three human heads and a Xenomorph from the Alien franchise in a vat of blood.

Using a specific code with a Gameshark cheat device, it's possible to view your opponent's cards in their hand during play. Utilizing this cheat, it's been discovered that the CPU opponents are programmed with an unfair advantage allowing them to change the cards drawn from their deck into entirely different cards to better suite the course of a match (i.e. changing an unnecessary Trap or Spell card into a Monster card that has high enough ATK points to destroy a powerful Monster card the player may have placed on the field the turn prior).

According to one of several patents filed by producer Masaya Matsuura and programmer John Belmonte for Sony in October 1999, it seems the game was planned to have a split-screen multiplayer mode, with the goal possibly being to see who could get the most points.

Like Battle Network 4, each region has a different logo and title screens. The Japanese and North American logos are notably similar, but the European logos follow the style of the previous games released in the region.

Una precisa scelta artistica

XNBG9nw.jpeg

The game's character select screen notoriously features unflattering portraits of the playable soldiers, which sharply contrasts with the bravado that would otherwise be associated with its militaristic setting. In the years following the game's release, fans speculated that the portraits were intended as either covert anti-war messaging, or as in-universe propaganda disseminated by General Morden's forces.

These theories were eventually debunked in a tweet by lead artist Akio Oyabu in 2025, who explained that the portraits were designed to lend a sense of comedic novelty to the game, humorously standing out from the "handsome men and beautiful women" that were omnipresent in fighting games at the concurrent height of the latter genre's popularity. Oyabu stated that he was influenced by Terry Gilliam's surrealist cutout animations in the 1969 British sketch comedy series Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Donkey Kong Country 3

Due to some unknown error, many US copies of the SNES version are missing the KONG letter 'G' in the level Rocket Rush. All other regions and the GBA re-release have the letter present.

Da un rifiuto, una rinascita

The game began development as a tie-in game based on the Alien franchise. However, because id Software wanted total creative control, negotiations with 20th Century Fox fell through. Instead, they took influences from the movie, as well as the Evil Dead franchise for the Chainsaw and Shotgun weapons, and dropped the use of aliens in favor of a "demons from Hell on Mars" theme.
