UFFICIALE PC Elite: Dangerous

Lots of little bits of news. Bit tired so a quick summary:
Sandro has the same hat....

Zac is as enthusiastic and helpful in person as he appears to be on the forums.

SJA is an evil genius and gave a number of small groups of us an insight into AI behaviour, how the npc rankings are being tweaked and improved and exactly how to beat reverse flight combat.

They are liking the idea of ship variants... especially when they help bridge gaps in their internal ship 'backbone'. More on that later.

There is a 10 year plan.

The UA thing isn't a wild goose chase, we are apparently 'close' and there is more awaiting us as and when we work it out.

Imperial Eagle concept artwork shown... may well change over time.

More support for player groups 'Soon'. Watch the gamescom news.

There is a plan to use the upgraded missions system to give us more depth. The upgrade was 'under the hood' to extend capability to do missions conditional upon statuses of all sorts.... Longer range and more complex missions were a 'yes' and got a 'very soon'.

The PC release of cqc from what we could tell will be hot on the heels of the proper xbone release.

And much more. Will tap notes up properly after today but essentially we are having a cracking time, the devs have all been superb, the community drank the bar out of ale and are all bonkers and we have 1 day left.

I did ask about missions, particularly about how many of the missions are of the kill 10 rats, err pirates type and how very few people actually read the mission text. Sandro mentioned that the mission system isn't anywhere near done, and (with a glint in his eye) said that they were thinking of ways to make missions a lot more than just reading text, find pirate, kill pirate type.

Michael doesn't want to inject hand crafted missions for non 'main arc' activities. They are looking at procedural generation for your own small mission arcs and working out how to make it rich and engaging.... or so he said. The mechanisms for delivering the missions and context related to rank, standing etc are in place... all they need to add is the auto creation of the content in enough variety.
Un piano decennale, quanto mi fanno godere ste cose. Quì si può tranquillamente emulare EVE. :ivan:

- Condor looks quite maneuverable; like a smaller version of the Vulture in terms of lateral thrust.

- Sidewinder again emphasized to be a tank in CQC. Has the same flight characteristics as in the main game.

- Really cool audio profile for flying through tunnels; sound reverberations with ship engines, weapons firing, and explosions. It sounds really cool!

- Tunnels seem to be significant strategic points to hold, especially in capture-the-flag-type game modes.

- Loadouts screen to pick different ship configurations. Not shown yet.

- Speed of Condor is around 300 m/s.

- CQC is all about mobility. Not so much about camping. Need speed to turn and keep track of fast-moving targets.

- CQC is meant to be very fast-paced.

- Power-up gates require skill to fly through without ramming into the ring.

- One power-up is a weapons damage boost.

- Asteroid field is considered a "particularly small map" compared to others.

- Asteroids are very much a part of the map, meant to feel integrated into the environment, providing cover and tactical advantages.

- Key CQC feature: visual obstructions. Need to have visual contact to lock on to targets. Can lose a pursuer by dodging out of sight.

- Destructible environment confirmed.

- The dude appears to have just blown a hole in one of the station walls...?? (Need confirmation on that.)

- CQC maps seem to have a boundary of some sort. Not sure how it's enforced yet.

- Particle effects when flying through holograms. Updated rendering/shader effect as ship "disrupts" hologram projection.

- Stream confirmed to be from Xbox One; mentioned at beginning of the stream.

- Eagle appears the be the same as from the main game.

- New map, possibly seen before in screenshots; station environment located above the dark side of a populated planet.

- Asteroids present in this map as well, but not all maps feature asteroids.

- Map features a retired "planetary outpost" (in orbit.)

- Not showing any AI competition yet. Just PvP.

- Blasting through obstacles to make it through tunnels.

- Stealth power-up based on silent running but without heat build-up. Allows you to slip away from targets easier. Ship still visible, but heat signature is flattened to avoid detection.

- Shield power-up gives "overcharged shields," makes shield rings appear gold.

- Eagle appears to be using "OC BEAM" weapons.

- Speed Surge power-up obviously gives increase in max speed.

- OC BEAM = overcharged beam lasers. They put out a lot of damage but also a lot of heat. Heat damage is obtained from using them too much. Cockpit is on fire.

- Capture the Flag and Team Deathmatch has 15 minute timer (Capture the flag might've had 10 minute timer) (thanks /u/SpyTec13!) Edit: Actually could be 15 minutes for all game modes.

- Spectator mode not confirmed yet. No direct answer yet. A "desirable function."

- Doors inside stations can be opened by shooting them.

- Sound design is excellent. Stations sound like they're creaking and groaning as you fly by their structures.

- Flight-Assist-Off confirmed for CQC.

- Space elevator confirmed. Has "SP-ELV" decal on the side.

- Event announcements such as countdown timer have HUD notifications as well as auditory announcements heard in the arena environment.

- Fixed and pseudo-fixed (partial gimbal?) weapons only, as far as we can tell. (thanks /u/clarkster and /u/SpyTec13!)

Info sulla 1.04 dal Dev Update (16/07/2015)

Hi everyone,
Last weekend was Lavecon and a group of us went there and a good time was had by all! We enjoyed meeting the fans and discussing the game both in the panel’s Q&A and one to one as we mingled. A big thank you to Karen and her team for organising the event and to everyone who made us feel welcome. We had so much fun that this update has a bit of a Lavecon theme :-)

The next major PC/Mac release (which was 1.4) is now headlined CQC Championship and will be released within as short a window as possible after the Xbox release. We’re looking at weeks, rather than months as has been speculated.

As with all of our major updates there is more than just the headline feature. There will be new ships, one of which we announced at Lavecon – the Imperial Eagle. This new ship is more of an interceptor than the original Eagle with better straight line speed and less manoeuvrability. It also sports a medium hardpoint as well as two small ones, giving it a bit more of a punch than its counterpart.

Something else that came up in conversation with fans is how vulnerable the Anaconda is to having its powerplant shot out. We’re going to change how taking out the powerplant works in the CQC update. There will still be a very small chance of powerplant destruction blowing up the ship, but it will also suffer module malfunctions like the other modules. Specifically it will lose power and will need to be rebooted. For the Anaconda we’re also making it a bit harder to hit the powerplant.

Player groups was something that came up quite a bit in conversation at Lavecon and in relation to powerplay as well. During the run up to Powerplay’s release we talked about how a player sponsored minor faction can rise to become a power. We’ve been working on the process for this and will be talking about it in more detail next week. For players already supporting a minor faction in game they will be eligible.

The Elite: Dangerous team have never been bigger, and we’re working long hours and weekends to have our major announcement ready in time for Gamescom. It’s something we’ve be building to for a long time and something we can’t wait to reveal. You’ll hear all about that when Gamescom opens to the press on August 5th.

Thanks!

Michael

L'han curata tantissimo st'arena btw, i power up eran l'ultima cosa che mi aspettavo

New Horizons and Pluto in Elite: Dangerous

On Tuesday NASA's New Horizons probe flew by Pluto and snapped the clearest images ever shot of the dwarf planet, revealing towering mountains of ice and a mostly young surface free of impact craters. The pictures reveal the way Pluto's various ices have melted and reformed, likely due to tidal heating from gravitational interaction with Charon.

We'd like to join the chorus of voices congratulating NASA on the incredible achievement, and we'd like to answer a question we've heard a number of times already from the community.

What does New Horizons mean for Pluto and Charon in Elite: Dangerous?

You'll notice Pluto and Charon look a little different in Elite: Dangerous, though we’re pleased by how closely our simulation has matched the ‘smooth’ heart-shaped area on Pluto. Our simulation assumed a more dramatic effect from the mild volcanism caused by tidal heating from interaction with Charon, which would uniformly refresh the surface over time. There’s still 1,300 years between now and 3301, which means around five more orbits and five more heating/cooling cycles between today and the era of Elite: Dangerous. It's possible the renewed surface could spread to cover the entire body by 3301!

Another major factor in the difference is the data available to our simulation "In Elite: Dangerous, we use real world data whenever it's available to make objects as real as we can make them," says Assistant Art Director Jon Bottone. "With a few exceptions, the surfaces you see are derived from the custom simulation based on things like the distance from the star and Newton's second law, the object's mass, temperature, composition, surface age, atmosphere, chemistry, tidal heating, radiative heating, impacts from other bodies during formation and so forth.

"For familiar objects like Earth, Mars and our moon, we can use real height map data to build a truly accurate model of the surface," he continues. "In the case of Earth and our terraformed Mars, we've used real height map data, simulated the levels of the oceans and added life to the surface in order to make the geography as accurate as we can make it. Those height maps are invaluable to making familiar planets look real, and if NASA is able to release that data for Pluto and Charon – or any other planetary body –we should be able to incorporate that in the future too."

So why don't we just paint a new surface texture based on NASA's new images?

"All our planets are built using a sophisticated simulation so that one day you can get close to them. Really close," Bottone says. "Right now every planet can only be observed from afar, but Elite: Dangerous is designed for the future, and by sticking to the simulation and constantly improving it to make it as real as possible, we can be sure the canyons and mountains you see from space will accurately be reflected when you skim close to the surface, or even land upon it."

In short: we're leaving Pluto and Charon to the simulation for now because we want to land on them someday, but we'll improve the simulation when we have the necessary data because flying along that four-mile deep canyon on Charon looks irresistible. Thanks to NASA's hard work, that day may be closer than ever.

Aggiungo quest'ultima news:

Greetings, Commanders.
One thing we’re really keen to do is support player groups as much as possible. There are some really exciting ways that groups can get involved in the game now and we’re working on a way to let you submit Community Goals, create minor factions and perhaps even become a full power in the game. You can find out more about this HERE

Something else we want to do is make sure we are communicating as much as possible with groups. As you can imagine there are hundreds of groups and many thousands of people involved in those groups so it’s hard to speak to everyone in one go. For that reason we’re launching a ranking system called Frontier Ranks.

Firstly, these ranks have no effect on your ability to submit Community Goals, establish a minor faction or become a power, but they will allow us to support player groups as much as possible through closer communication. The ranks are more focused on being able to help the largest and most active groups, but we hope it will be beneficial to everyone, and inspire more amazing groups to come forward

There will be 3 recognised ranks of player groups. If you would like to be added to our list send us an email to groups@elitedangerous.com including your name, type (PVP/PVE), member size, website (if you have one) and contact name and email.

Dangerous – Dangerous groups are anyone that wants to be a part of the conversation. The only requirements are that you have a group and want to hear more news and updates from us. These groups will be added to the database and contacted via email when there are events, incentives or information that they might like to know about.

Elite – Elite groups are groups that have an established and thriving sub-community. They might have an estimate of about 50+ members, run regular events which can be promoted and are supportive of the ED team and community. These groups will be able to submit their activity to us to be promoted in our newsletters, social media or an events schedule which will be creating in the coming weeks.

Triple Elite – The largest and most engaged sub communities belong in the ranks of Triple Elite. They are likely to have a huge and super-active community, with many hundreds of active members and are a positive influence to Frontier and the community as a whole. They will also run public events weekly which we would be able to promote across all of our channels and on an event schedule. Groups that are Triple Elite ranked will be able to attend a regular Skype call, receive increased promotion, prizing for events or competitions (at the community team’s discretion) and ad hoc invitations to studio tours or fan events. As our player groups program develops over time, we’ll be looking at more ways to help the dedicated groups – the Triple Elite members will be the first to hear about what we have planned.

A few points to note about player group ranks are:

  • The ranks listed out here are just guides. Ultimately the more of a positive impact and community-centric group you are the more we can help support you.
  • The community team will determine the ranks of any given group
  • Groups can be removed from ranks if required
  • Rank benefits can change as and when required. They should be used as a guide.
  • The community team’s decision on rankings are final

Thanks,

Zac
