God of War Fallen God Comics Sucks And Explains Nothing (Comic Series Between GOW3 And 2018) SPOILERS

So, I just finished reading the fourth and final issue of this series from Dark Horse that was touted as "explaining the events after God of War 3 that lead up to God of War 2018". I can safely say that none of that is true and there's very little to distinguish each issue from each other.

Issue 1 begins with Kratos sailing to Egypt and over several panels trying to throw away the Blades of Chaos despite them always returning to him. He yells a lot and just wanders the desert for a few pages all the while a god tells him he cannot run from his destiny. He's told that no matter what direction he goes his destiny will catch up with him and he eventually passes out from exhaustion which is the end of the first issue.

Initially, this struck me as being an okay opener. He wants to get away from the destruction he caused in Greece and having the Blades be a constant reminder that haunts him by respawning everytime he throws them away isn't bad. But let's get into the next issue.

Issue 2 opens with Athena appearing to Kratos in a dream telling him the same thing the Egyptian god told him the previous issue and will continue to tell him in this one. When Kratos wakes up he again yells and throws away the Blades of Chaos that have spawned by his side. Kratos wanders the desert for a few more pages and returns to a town he passed through in the first issue though a few months have passed. The people originally feared him because they'd heard of the Ghost of Sparta, but now they rejoice because a big crocodile is attacking them. Kratos tells them to fend for themselves but the Egyptian god tells him it's his destiny to fight and that he should help out the mortals. Kratos yells that it's madness but ends the issue by lunging at the big lizard.

So, thus far Kratos has wandered around in the desert, yelled and been told to follow his nebulous 'destiny' for two issues now and the series is half over. This is the point when I started to worry that nothing would be revealed since there was basically no development between the first issue and the second.

Issue 3 continues the battle between Kratos and the crocodile. Kratos punches it really hard on the nose and does the King Kong thing where he rips open it's jaws to kill it. He looks back at the town angry that people aren't ecstatic at his good deed (because he also destroyed their town in the process) and yells at them when a big scary hippo monster rises from the ocean and the Egyptian god tells him this too is part of his destiny. Kratos tries to leave because he doesn't care about people but the hippo attacks him so he retaliates by punching it in the nose. This time though the hippo swats him away like a fly and the issue ends with him passing out.

Again, no character development and just more complaining from Kratos about having to fight more but at least he isn't seen throwing away the blades in this issue.

Issue 4 starts out with Kratos talking with Athena and the Egyptian god who appears to be Thoth. They both tell him for the hundredth time to embrace his destiny and take up the Blades of Chaos once more. He screams and complains that he will never be free and the gods talk about destiny some more before he screams "DAMN YOU" and reluctantly picks up his weapons. Over the course of 10 PAGES (OVER HALF THE ISSUE) he fights and kills the hippo thanks to having more than just his fists. Thoth tells him he did good and that he'll have good luck when he leaves Egypt but that does little to console Kratos. The last page ends with Kratos saying he's trapped in a cage of his own emotions, reliving his darkest nightmares and to damn himself to hell.

Zero mention of Faye. No insight into how he actually got to Midgard. How he was able to move around without the Blades zipping from underneath his house.

This comic series was a complete waste of time for someone actually curious to see Kratos meet his wife and get to the position of having another child. Fallen God does nothing and for the most part feels like the same comic printed four times as each issue regurgitates the same 'follow your destiny' nonsense over and over.

At least confirms that Kratos transition from Greek to Norse is still a vital plot that won't be waste on a comic.

Scontato.
