BIOSHOCK DEVELOPER IRRATIONAL GAMES IS HIRING AGAIN

After announcing a change of focus and laying off "all but fifteen" staff earlier this year, the studio is looking to increase staff headcount once more.Whilst the recruitment advertisements shed little light on what's next for the studio, the placement for a senior programmer - one with experience in Unreal Engine 3 and 4 and multiplayer - is, hopefully, a positive sign.

Ken Levine is answering reader questions about his upcoming game on Twitter.
Levine posted a video to a talk he gave at the Game Developer's Conference last year about "narrative Legos" as a starting point. He said, "As an FYI, I am working on a game. Happy to answer Twitter questions on it."

Q: What is the game about? Will it be first person or third? A: Current thinking is first.

Q: Will there be a lighthouse in your new game? A: There's always a lighthouse. But probably not in this game.

Q: Does your game have an established setting? For example, is it set in something like the Logan's Run universe?A: It's a new universe, not set in any existing.

Q: Will combat advance/be essential to the narrative? A: The narrative Lego concept can exist outside of any game system. It could, for instance, work as a diplomacy system in Civ.

Q: Don't remember if you talked about this, but any mention of scope of the game? Seems it's going to be a typical indie sized game. A: The scope will be large-ish, but heavily reliant on re--usable "Lego" narrative and game systems, which are re-combineable.

Q: I'm sorry, but I have to: Is it a Freedom Force game? A: No. That's still in my back pocket.

Q: Are you working on an AI smarter than Liz? A: Very different approach than Liz. (Miss her, though.)

Q: Will we see what you are working on at E3 this year? A: That's not the way we want to share it with people.

Q: Give us a hint as to what this setting is? Or is that confidential? A: We're playing with something sci-fi. Or sci-fi ish.

Q: How far are you into development? Any narrative or characters written down yet? Anything? Or just brainstorming? A: Stuff in engine. Very rudimentary gameplay. Concept art. Passion system in code. A working board game to demonstrate passions.

Q: Is there any performance (VO/mocap) in this game, or does the Lego concept necessitate less baked writing? A: Voice actors. But we have to write them very differently so smaller chunks recombine in meaningful ways. Lots of headscratching.

Q: Still deciding on a studio name? A: We think we're close on that.

Q: Telltale Games style? A: No.

Q: Still sticking to the three-act structure? A: No. Don't think that's relevant in what we're doing. I think more like chapters.

Q: Strictly being developed for PC release or multi-platform? A: As of now, developing for PC.




Q: You going to show anything/be at PAX East? A: Should be on a panel or two.

Q: Do you plan to explore more of the quantum mechanics space? A: I think we covered that one...

L'ex studio Irrational Games cambia nome in Ghost Story Games

Irrational Games è al lavoro su un nuovo gioco, stando a quanto rivelato da una serie di annunci di lavoro. Ricordiamo come in realtà Irrational Games non si chiami più così ma 2K non ha ancora reso noto il nuovo nome dello studio.Da questi annunci di lavoro non è chiaro se sia in via di sviluppo una nuova IP mentre è stato confermato che si tratta di uno sparatutto in prima persona; il titolo sarà supportato dal motore grafico Unreal Engine 4

Levine said one of the main design goals for his next game, which hasn't officially been announced and doesn't have a name, is for it to be highly replayable.
Levine said in the interview today that the goal for this project was for it to retain what made BioShock great, but also layer on elements that would make it replayable.

Don't expect Levine's next game to be totally open-ended like Minecraft, however. He stressed that Irrational is building the formula by which the narrative Lego pieces combine, so to speak. However, though Irrational is guiding the story somewhat, Levine said he expects people to be able to create a story all their own, combining the narrative Lego in "millions of interesting ways."

"The thing we're working on is sort of a small-scale open-world game"

"I'm so deeply involved in the themes of our new thing, our new game is a science-fiction game," he said. "It involves themes like artificial intelligence and what it means to be programmed, that you are a thing that was created by programming."

Questo voleva fare un AAA (per di più ambizioso: con scelte che modificano la narrativa, impianto cinematico, fazioni, e assets highres) in 30 persone. E in pochi anni. E senza una deadline.

Purtroppo è un megalomane incredibile, la cosa che mi fa incazzare è che il talento lo ha eccome ma santo dio scendi dal piedistallo.

Basta leggere la sua "idea" per capire quanta ambizione abbia. Sarebbe fighissimo vedere le sue idee realizzate ma non è possibile se continua così...
Poi va be' umanamente deve essere un cazzo di incubo lavorare con sta persona.

Comunque è confermato alla fine è ancora sotto Take Two. Era uscito un rumor poco tempo fa sulla questione.
 
Insomma un altro creativo dell'industria che sbrocca e rimane vittima delle sue stesse ambizioni, includendo anche chi gli sta attorno. Che peccato. :sadfrog:
