Now known as
Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, the game will have players set up their own Ghostbusters HQ in San Francisco, solving a deep mystery across a new chapter within the franchise’s universe.
nDreams game director Nathan Baseley admitted that it was Sony Pictures VR who had tasked them with the location change, being challenged to evolve the already established equipment that, if you haven’t seen, is on display within the original reveal trailer.
Baseley said that nDreams wanted
“the feeling of fun to come through,” re-confirming that it will include four-player co-op, balancing between
“investigation and combat.”
While no gameplay was shown, we were still given a preview thanks to some key art that depicts a San Francisco overran with a paranormal threat, along with our first look at the ominous Ghost Lord character, a new team, and the welcome addition of a few familiar faces, the Mini-Pufts!
Sony Pictures VR’s Riley Cooper mentioned that
Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-writer and director Jason Reitman was able to play a recent build of the game, saying:
“He loved every bit of it. He gave us direction, things like, let’s make sure the equipment is a little bit makeshift, a little bit improvised.”
While no specific release date was given,
Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord will release on the Meta Quest 2 and PSVR 2 in 2023.
As part of this year's Kinda Funny Halloween live stream, Ghostbusters VR, the upcoming virtual reality video game from developer nDreams, was not only given a new title, but fans got their first look at key art, along with details surrounding gameplay.
