New Interview with Producer Masato Kumazawa

-Recommends playing Grace in first person and Leon in third person, though both can be played in either, Leon’s action gameplay and Grace’s horror gameplay complement these specific perspectives more.

-While other characters will appear & be a surprise, the story is centered around Grace & Leon.
About Grace's past & Leon's secrets.

-The site says RE has compelling spin-offs in the franchise past, & asks what the producer would like to do if he could pick any spin-off idea.
He answers he'd love to tell the story of the process of "how things come to be" the way they are in RE9, hard to say what he means right now since a lot of RE9's story is a mystery to players, but when people play RE9 they may see what he means.
But he mentions no such side-story is in dev right now, just something he'd like to do is a RE9 prequel.

-Mentions that the title, "Requiem", has a meaning for every character in RE9. For Grace, it's about laying her past to rest & reconciling with her mother's death.
For Raccoon City, it's a requiem for the city itself & the many people who died.
For Leon, it's a mystery for people to unravel in game. Hints more meanings for people to uncover.

-Reaffirms that Grace & Leon's split in the game is "precisely half-&-half" roughly.

-Horror level for the game entirely is “about the same as RE2”

-Says there was a lot of care put into transitioning between Grace's survival-horror & Leon's action-horror sides of the game.
He himself had worries at the start, but says how seamless it ended up being playing it himself.

-Sorta' dances around the question if we'll get gameplay bits with Grace & Leon together, but does mention they'll meet & part ways multiple times through the story.

-When asked about concerns of Leon overshadowing Grace, he says there's great appeal in seeing Grace's journey of growth in RE9.
Leon is very set in his ways at this point, while Grace is unlike any other character in RE before. And both end up rubbing off on each other.

-Action and Horror were combined as a way to “heighten” the horror, having to go from playing as Leon to playing as a defenseless protagonist, Kumazawa reiterates Nakanishis quote about going into a cold bath after a sauna.

-Graces gameplay is exactly like RE2R, “the fun lies in how to survive with limited supplies and ammunition”

-The producer mentions the gun on the steelbook cover, & mentions how it's core to RE9.
And users online had noticed that we have both seen Leon load this gun, & Grace has it in another video.
He says the gun ends up being very important, so pay attention to it.

-Says what he's said a few times, the story will be accessible to newcomers to RE.
All you got to keep in mind is Leon was in the Raccoon City incident, & you're set. The rest will be explained fully to a newcomer in-game.

-Says if there's any RE games you should play before RE9 comes out, he'd recommend RE:2 & RE:3, knowing both games will make you notice things in RE9.

-Avoids a question asking if this is the final installment in the "Umbrella Saga" like many fans believe, but iterates this isn't going to be the end of the RE franchise, they've got a roadmap for years to come after

New Interview with Producer Masato Kumazawa

- Recommends playing Grace in first person and Leon in third person, though both can be played in either, Leon’s action gameplay and Grace’s horror gameplay complement these specific perspectives more.

- Reiterates again this story is based on Leon and Grace only, and their connection to Raccoon City.

- Kumazawa’s “dream spin off” is a prequel to Requiem explaining how the story and Raccoon City have come to how it is now, but can’t delve deeper into this yet as the story has not been fully revealed.

- “Requiem” for Grace means her delving into her past and reconciling with it, for Raccoon City it’s a requiem for the people who died, Leon’s meaning to “requiem” is being kept secret for now but Kumazawa says fans will understand once they play the game.

- Kumazawa reiterates that Leon and Grace have “exactly” half and half playtime.

- Kumazawa worried combining action and horror would be “strange” but has put a lot of thought into crafting this right, he says now playing the game the transition is more “seamless” than he expected.

- Grace and Leon’s stories are “not independent”, they meet and part ways numerous times throughout the story, Kumazawa says it’s “unlikely” in response to if they’ll move together like Leon and Ashley in RE4.

- Kumazawa says Grace’s appeal is watching her grow throughout the game, overcoming her fears and becoming less of a coward.

- Action and Horror were combined as a way to “heighten” the horror, having to go from playing as Leon to playing as a defenseless protagonist, Kumazawa reiterates Nakanishis quote about going into a cold bath after a sauna.

- Graces gameplay is exactly like RE2R, “the fun lies in how to survive with limited supplies and ammunition”

- The magnum revolver on the Deluxe steelbook that we see Leon and Grace wielding at different points has a special story that will be revealed later or in the game.

- Horror level for the game entirely is “about the same as RE2”

- Game is structured well for newcomers, all you have to know is that Leon was involved with the Raccoon City incident, but he says veterans will enjoy it “200% more”

- He says if players want to play games that tie into Requiem before release, he recommends RE2R and RE3R, as they show the protagonist Leon’s connection to Raccoon City as well as teaching players more about the Raccoon City incident.

- Requiem is obviously not the final entry, they have more entries planned to “please fans”
