No sign of DRS in his testing but uses Capcom's RE engine checker-boarding (interlacing) reconstruction
  • Both PS5 and SX have same resolution metrics (2160p in resolution and 1944p in performance)
  • While the pixel count is the same, the image quality between the two is not similar.
  • PS5 has noisier image, post effects, worse aliasing, temporal stability etc
  • NXGamer thinks the issue is in difference of AA working with the reconstruction/interlacing
  • PS5 looks similar to FSR1 and SX looks similar to FSR2 in PC equivalent terms.

  • In resolution mode both drop lots of frames with RT and Hair on
  • SX is often 6~10 FPS lower in this mode. It is often below the VRR range here. PS5 can stay in the VRR range more often here.
  • In Resolution mode with Hair and RT off, PS5 is closer to 60 more often but can dip in heavy bandwidth scenarios, and SX can dip a further 10-15% over that still.

  • In Frame Rate mode with RT/Hair on, the performance is nearly identical with SX having approx 5% worse performance.
  • Turning RT and Hair off makes this a locked 60 FPS mode on both barring some streaming stutters.

- Cinematics are GPU bound and game play are CPU bound which contributes to the above in Xbox having a small advantage in cut-scenes and PS5 in game play.

  • Input latency is very high on both (204 vs 219 ms on PS5 and SX respectively)
  • NXG thinks this is an intentional decision.
  • NXG thinks it helps to increase acceleration on Xbox pad high to remedy some of the deadzone issues on Xbox.

Bioshock 1 e 2 girano a 1440p su PS4 Pro, 2160p (UHD) su One X.

Looking at the first two titles to begin with, even with its lower resolution, PS4 Pro at 1440p definitely enhances the game's visual presentation by helping to bring out texture detail and reducing edge jaggies - it's just that the Xbox One X does this in a much better fashion when you look at them back to back. However, pure pixel count is only one part of the equation: The first two games have very simplistic anti-aliasing implementations in place, so specular shimmer in motion is an issue, even on Xbox One X.

Digital Foundry early glimpse at Ghostwire: Tokyo for Series S|X: "Quantifiably worse than the PlayStation 5 version which wasn't great to begin with"

Xbox Series X RT reflections lower quality compared to PS5
Xbox Series X RT shadow alignments seemingly bugged compared to PS5
Resolutions pretty similar for most part but in quality mode Xbox Series X resolution is moderately lower compared to PS5
Xbox Series X performance 5-10% lower than PS5 on average
Xbox Series S only has 2 modes, quality and performance
Neither mode has RT for Series S with performance mode running sub-60FPS
Overall Xbox Series X runs worse than PS5 with Xbox Series S "a bit of a mess", "really weird situation"

720p in modalità portatile, 1080p dinamici in dock;
30 fps con frame pacing irregolare nella visuale della mappa dall'alto;
frame rate sbloccato nelle animazioni dagli attacchi, oscilla tra i 30 ed i 50 fps;

For current-gen console owners there's even better news. PS5, Series X and Series S each get a push to 60fps, and in the case of PS5 and Series X there's a sizeable resolution boost as well. The PS5 version runs at a native 3072x1728 with a perfectly-held 60fps, while Series X targets the same resolution and also hits 60fps outside of a few brief drops while using elemental attacks. Jumping over to Series S, performance remains excellent with only occasional drops from the 60fps target, with heavier effects work causing frame-rates to drop into the high 50s in rare instances. However, resolution is lower than on the other current-gen machines, with a native 1920x1080 presentation - a fair trade for 60fps, I think it's fair to say.

:morris2:

Let's go through each of the consoles in turn, starting with the base Xbox One edition - the most constrained last-gen console. Xbox One runs at a native 1600x900 resolution with a 30fps target that's mostly stuck to - there are occasional hitches and single frame drops, triggered by UI changes or picking up a weapon, but it's a surprisingly smooth experience that shows evidence of plenty of optimisation and no signs of dynamic resolution scaling during our testing.

Switching over to base PS4, it's again positive, with a native 1080p presentation and the same core visual settings as the base Xbox One. However, the 30fps frame-rate target isn't held quite as well, with slightly more aggressive hitching in places - but most areas remain a watertight 30fps. Note that neither base PS4 or Xbox One are able to host online games at launch - PS4 Pro, Xbox One X or a current-gen console are required to host sessions, although Dambusters is aiming to address this restriction in the weeks following launch.
Next up are the enhanced machines: Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. Both consoles use the same visual settings as their older counterparts, with textures, shadows and alpha effects all matching, but push a crisper image with a native 2560x1440 presentation. Again, the frame-rate target is 30fps, with each machine sticking to it almost perfectly, with rare incidences of one frame dips but overall a robust experience all around.
