This is the first Dragon Quest to keep it's title in America and Europe. Square Enix managed to acquire the name 'Dragon Quest', which had previously belonged to Simulations Publications.

Parlando del gioco base: La durata si attesta intorno alle 20 ore, divise in 15 per la campagna principale e 5 per le missioni secondarie. È presente anche Catwoman come personaggio giocabile, sia in missioni a lei dedicate nella modalità Storia che nelle Sfide.

During development, Shirley was going to be an optional boss along with the other Dragoons in Vellweb. However, due to the White-Silver Dragoon's ability to heal 100% of its health while also having an unlimited MP supply, the boss was cut from the title as it was considered an unbeatable fight. The data for this battle can still be found on the game's disc.

Star Ocean: Blue Sphere

In the Gravis Desert is a cracked structure. If the game is being played on a Game Boy Color, there is no way of entering, however, if playing on a non-color Game Boy, there will be an opening. Inside is a room that has a character give the Hero the choice to open one of the two chests in the room, both containing rare power-ups.

Fans often remarked on Theodore's resemblance to Kanji when Persona 3 Portable was released. This gets referenced in a sidequest, where Aigis even theorizes they're brothers who were separated at birth. She even admits she got the idea from reading fanfiction.

The game was released in North America a full month before its native Japan. The Japanese (and later, European) release took advantage of the gap to rebalance the game based on perceived issues with the American build.

The House of the Dead

According to a 1997 Sega Saturn magazine interview, the game's planner/director Takashi Oda mentioned that he wanted to target the game towards adults rather than children or teenagers, and did so by making the protagonists a decade older compared to other games at the time which commonly featured protagonists in their 20's, allowing the developers to avoid toning down the violent content in the game for a younger audience:

"I did that because our target audience was adults and up. From the start of the project we knew we didn’t want children playing this game. Had we wanted to target them, I think we would have made the game more about ghosts or something, not zombies. Those considerations were one of the tougher parts of this development."

The Japanese version of the game allows the player to save game progress on the cartridge, while the U.S. version requires a Controller Pak to save.

This game was plagued by internal conflict within the development team. Hiroki Kikuta wanted to take the RPG genre into a new direction while the others wanted to do something more close to what Squaresoft (now Square Enix) was doing at the time. Kikuta wanted the game to be action orientated, citing Resident Evil as inspiration.

Kikuta departed Sacnoth after the game was released and Sacnoth changed their name to Nautilus.

Contra

A cheat code, which has come to be known as The Konami Code, allows you can start off with 30 Lives instead of 3.

At the Title Screen, Push Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start.

The same cheat code was also used in Gradius before Contra was release on NES.

One of the enemies in the game was censored in the European release and all Dreamcast versions due to looking like a stereotypical Mexican bandito. They censored the character by turning his hair blond, giving him a white hat, and changing his clothing. However, the character remains uncensored in the American Playstation release or any of the Nintendo 64 versions.

Mystic Quest/Final Fantasy Adventure

The game started off as a project called "Seiken Densetsu: The Emergence of Excalibur" and was planned to be released in 1987 for the Famicom Disk System on 5 Disks, which would've been the biggest 8-bit game ever made. However resources were moved to focus on games for the Game Boy to which the project was canceled with Square giving refunds to all who had pre-ordered it. The Seiken Densetsu name was later reused for another game which was in development called Gemma Knights which would become Final Fantasy Adventure.

Zurvan, the name that the Vizier takes for himself, is the god of time for the ancient Persians. He was also a neutral god since his twin sons were the personification of good and evil. His sons were Ormazd and Ahriman, which are the deities found in Prince of Persia (2008).

Golden Axe

The enemy's death screams in the game are digitized screams taken from movies, most notably Conan the Barbarian and First Blood.

The last part of his name is derived from Inari, sometimes known as Oinari. "Godkarmachine" is a combination of "God", "karma" and "machine". These fit well with the original names and designs of Bit and Byte, which had Hindu/Buddhist references.

Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels

A special edition of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, entitled "All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros." was released only in Japan. It featured almost identical gameplay to that game and lifted level designs from Super Mario Bros., but instead replaced the enemies with Japanese celebrities. It was based on the popular Japanese radio program, "All Night Nippon", and was given away as a raffle prize from the program itself.

In the town of Guntz, there's a man you can get in your township, he opens a weapon shop. His name is Karashnikofu, which in katakana would be the Japanese rendering of the Russian name Kalashnikov, the inventor of the AK-47 assault rifle.
