Many of the recent events are probably connected. For the last month:
All those events are coming between the annual report and Sony's strategy meeting/PlayStation showcase.
Another interesting fact is that Sony decreased its acquisition budget, but increased internal budgets specifically for gaming and image sensors.
The problem probably is not cost cutting but some kind of reworking the whole strategy for the next few years, midterm and long-term.

- shutting down Pixel Opus
- acquisition of Firewalk Studios
- Lay offs at Deviation Games/Fire Strike Games and probably cancellation of their project
- ending the support for Dreams and restructuring Media Molecule
