Anyone listen to David Jaffe interview with Jeff Ross and John Garvin? Almost everything about Bend Studio that was portrayed in Jason Schreiers article was not accurate. Kinda crazy
Well one of huge talking points was Bend being a support studio for Naughty Dog. John Garvin confirmed that was false.

I think it (Days Gone 2’s pitch) was dead on arrival. It did get reviewed from a level right above the studio, but I don’t think it went any further than that. I think the reviews were from the lens of the first one was a train wreck in so many ways and didn’t sell awesome, so lets keep these guys busy. They asked us, hey what about a Syphon Filter..

Host David Jaffe continued to probe for more answers revolving around the mention of the Syphon Filter pitch, which Ross mentioned he had “zero ideas” on how to reboot, and mentioned that he was pitching an open-world Resistance game.

Are there any other IPs that we have that we can use? And the only ones we had was Syphon Filter. But honestly I have zero ideas on how to reboot Syphon Filter, I was not interested in that at all. The pitch I making was open world Resistance (which) would be fucking rad. All these open world loops that we figured out. It almost wrote itself with Resistance or so many aspects of that property that lends itself to open world gameplay. They weren’t interested in that either, and I don’t know how well it sold. They were interested in almost anything but a Days Gone 2.

No vabbè Sony "voleva" un reboot di Syphon Filter e Ross invece voleva fare un Resistance open world

Ultima modifica:
Jeff Ross and John Garvin on Jaffe's stream.

Jeff clarified his tweet a little. The way he seems to explain it, is that local management in Bend didn't want Days Gone 2.
Apparently Bend management didn't even push the pitch to the higher levels of WWS to people like Hulst.

Was instead offered (by an unclarified party) to create a pitch for Syphon Filter, which Ross declined for good reasons.

Ross mentioned he had “zero ideas” on how to reboot, and mentioned that he was pitching an open-world Resistance game.
All these open world loops that we figured out. It almost wrote itself with Resistance or so many aspects of that property that lends itself to open world gameplay. They weren’t interested in that either. They were interested in almost anything but a Days Gone 2.

While the studio was offered to give a pitch (meaning there was nothing more than just ideas) for Syphon Filter, Ross believed that even if they had decided to go that route, it wouldn’t have meant the project would have been greenlit, as he states, he believed it was more of a way to keep them busy and that it was never a genuine offer.

Garvin and Ross also confirmed that Naughty Dog North support studio stuff from the Schreier article was over-exaggerated and wasn't that close to the truth.
Apparently Bend sent team members to Sucker Punch to help on Ghost, and to Naughty Dog to help on projects. They said that this was standard practice in the industry.

When a team is done with a project and doesn't have a lot of work on their hands, they get sent to other parts of the company to help.
Ross and Garvin seem positive on Sony overall, especially when it came to creative freedom.
Ross's main issue seems to be with management at Bend not pushing Days Gone. Just thought it's been pretty good context to the topic.

Garvin made the point that Sony doesn't really do the support studio structure, at least while he was there, they are more likely to just shutter the studio, then change their identity into a support team.

It seems that John Garvin had some big issues during the production of Days Gone (probably in relation to all the staff that came in during the production of the game). He said that Sony offered help/training, but it didn't work out and he was asked to leave.

Jeff Ross said on the podcast that the sale numbers are based on gamstat (an old website which uses trophy data to estimate sales figures), and it seems the PC numbers are from SteamSpy. He never had access to executive level sales data.

lol

:asd:
