Ho scritto un'altra piccola recensione di Parasite, visto che purtroppo continuo a rivederlo nella mia testa.
In inglese.
To add something to my first review.
I was thinking more and more about how movies like Parasite, and other tv series about "manipulation" and "the rich vs the poor", are so good at instigate the fight for crumbs among the middle class.
Since everybody wants to know why their life doesn't feel good it's easy to start the train of thoughts with "must be because of the rich" narrative, but that's kind of a vague concept for a political economical attack.
Usually in movies you don't even try to make it more sophisticated, you go to the heart of the human problem: desires VS social stability. You make bold characters conflict in their bold visions without looking for analysis. But that's clearly not the scope of Parasite. The director make a liberal political economy take where production is never touched upon. - People are selfish per se, that's the root of the problem, see see see! All that gore and manipulation must prove it!
Political economy that essentialize the subjects of the economical exchange is perfect to divert the attention from production conflicts and vision differences. It was like this 200 years ago already with the classical economists.
Once a good analysis is out of reach, a true drama suffocated, only a fight for who will be more respectful of work, delicate in its gestures, will remain.
There's always someone that has a bigger house than you, a work that seems less tiring, or an unemployed asshole that benefits from welfare maybe... In the end the "rich" in Parasite just have a house, they're pretty normal people with some redeemable flaws.
Moralism unleash the power of insatisfactions against those that are not respectful and don't play by the rules. If work and production is accepted in every single detail, not even nominated, the problem of the rich will be of not being considerate, of not working enough, not of making everybody work.
It's funny to see the display of surprise when rich people show their love for Parasite. Why shouldn't they? It's their movie to toy with people insatisfactions and rest at ease.
