anime of
Makoto Yukimura's
Vinland Sagamanga unveiled the anime's first animated promotional video and second anime visual on Wednesday. The website and the new video reveal the main cast and additional staff members.
The main cast stars:
Shizuka Ishigami as Thorfinn (childhood)
Yūto Uemura as Thorfinn
Kenichirou Matsuda as Thors
Yutaka Yamada (
Tokyo Ghoul,
Donten ni Warau Gaiden: Ketsubetsu, Yamainu no Chikai) is composing the music.
Ken Hashimoto is the color key artist, and
Yusuke Takeda is directing the art at Bamboo. Mayu Takehana is directing the CG, and
Chiptune is charge of 3D CGI.
Yuuki Kawashita is the director of photography, and
Kashiko Kimura is editing. Shōji Hata is directing the sound at
Sound Team Don Juan.
The anime's official Twitter account posted English translations for comments from the
main cast and
Yamada. People who follow the anime's Twitter account and retweet this
post before February 9 at 6:00 p.m. Japan Time will enter a drawing for three posters, signed by the three main cast members.
Kodansha Comics began
publishing the series in North America in 2013, and the 10th English omnibus volume, which includes the chapters from Japanese volumes 19 and 20, shipped in June. The company describes the story:
Thorfinn is son to one of the Vikings' greatest warriors, but when his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England. From the creator of the classic
Planetes manga comes this epic, highly-anticipated tale.

Shuhei Yabuta (
Inuyashiki Last Hero director,
Attack on Titan 3D director) is directing the anime at
Wit Studio (Attack on Titan,
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress,
The Ancient Magus' Bride).
Hiroshi Seko (
Banana Fish,
Ajin - Demi-Human) is supervising the series scripts and writing them with
Kenta Ihara (
Saga of Tanya the Evil).
Takahiko Abiru (
Hunter × Hunter animation director) is designing the characters. Bamboo is in charge of the art, and
MAD BOX is in charge of special effects.
The anime will
air on television and stream exclusively on
Amazon Prime both in Japan and overseas this year.
The tagline accompanying the second anime visual above reads, "Cast your sword aside." The visual shows the main character Thorfinn on a Viking ship in a raging snowstorm.
