IMPORTANTI NOVITA':

http://www.examiner.com/game-news-in-national/amd-xbox-720-graphics-will-look-like-avatar

Queste info verranno rivelate su Official Xbox Magazine di Agosto.

The Xbox 360 had its graphics hardware supplied by AMD, so if anyone might know something about the Xbox 720 development, it could be AMD. Examiner reports the detail level in the Xbox 720 will be on the same level as Avatar, the James Cameron movie. Some people claim that this is still not possible on a PC with the best graphics, although we may disagree there.

AMD hasn’t confirmed if they’re working on the Xbox 720, Neal Robison of AMD did say that we’ve got a lot to be excited about when it comes to gaming on the next Xbox. What blew us away was a statement about A.I. in the next-gen hardware, its claimed that Robison said the A.I. will allow for games like Grand Theft Auto to have pedestrians that each have their own mentality. Gamers need to pause a moment, and just think about the potential of that possibility.

PS4, Xbox 720 'coming soon', 'transition is happening' - Ubisoft

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/312073/ps4-xbox-720-coming-soon-transition-is-happening-ubisoft/

Wii U's 2012 release will push Sony and Microsoft to launch PS4 and Xbox 720 a bit earlier than they had hoped, reckons Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

Ubisoft's previously gone on record to say it wants next-gen consoles to arrive 'sooner rather than later' to help spark innovation.

"I think [Wii U is] sending the message that the new transition is going to happen - and we're going to have new machines coming soon," Guillemot told Gamasutra.

The CEO has long taken the approach that as new gaming hardware arrives, his company should be one of the first to release games on the platform - and he plans to adopt the strategy again for Wii U.

"We're going to continue to take this approach," he said. "We feel this console is coming with very innovative features that will change the video game industry and we want to be a part of that."

2K boss Christoph Hartmann recently claimed Microsoft and Sony are already "experimenting" with Kinect and Move for what could be the foundations of their next-generation console plans.

Hardware giant AMD piped up this weekend to claim the next Xbox will feature graphics on a par with James Cameron's Avatar.

Ma proprio no guarda....

Square Enix: Next gen to bring 'a big leap' in graphics

Stylised games may seem to plateau, but realism will raise the bar, says technology director Julien Merceron.

The next generation of games machines will be driven to new levels of graphics realism, says Julien Merceron, worldwide technology director at Square Enix.

"I think that we're still going to see a big leap in graphics," Merceron told VideoGamer.com at Develop this week. "In terms of technology I think we'll see developers taking advantage of physically-based rendering, physically-based lighting. I think people will take advantage of global illumination, or at least some form approximation of global illumination, so that could have a significant impact on graphics quality.

Physically-based rendering and global illumination are techniques that allow coders to create photo-realistic effects. Both processes are already used in CGI film-making - and this in turn could benefit game developers.

"It's going to enable new forms of art direction, but it's also going to enable deeper convergence between multiple media - being able to share more assets horizontally between movies, TV series and games," said Merceron.

"This means that when you're doing a cartoon, or when you're doing an animated movie, you could think about an art direction for the game that could be far closer [than current tie-ins]. Obviously it won't be the same, because the processing power won't be there, but you can think about art directions being way closer. And you can think about assets being re-used."

But merceron believes that graphical advances will be most evident in games that strive for a realistic appearance.

"There's a lot of room for improvement, and consumers will be able to see that in future graphics innovation techniques," he said. "Now, if you take most of the Pixar movies from the last five to six years… do you see a big difference between one that was released five years ago, and one that was released last year? I'm actually not sure we see a huge difference.

"But if you take a film like Avatar, there's a huge leap in the graphics techniques that are being used and the level of realism. The conclusion I would draw from that is we might end up seeing the difference way more in realistic-looking games, rather than those trying to achieve a cartoony look. At some point, with all these games [that are] going for a cartoony look, consumers might get the feeling that it's plateauing. But for games striving for a very realistic look, it's going to be easy to see all the improvements, all the time."

During the same conversation, Merceron expressed his belief that social networks and similar experiences will play a major role in the future of gaming.

Next year’s Adreno GPU will “take mobile gaming to a new level of console quality graphics,” claims Qualcomm’s Raj Talluri – and will match the PS3 and Xbox 360 for gaming performance.

http://beefjack.com/news/2012s-mobile-gpus-will-match-ps3360-graphics-says-qualcomm-boss/

Next year’s iteration of the Adreno GPU will allow for mobile devices that match the graphical power of the PS3 and Xbox 360 and will leave gamers asking “Why relegate myself to gaming on my couch when I can get the same optimal quality on my phone or tablet?” – or so says Raj Talluri, Qualcomm‘s product management boss.

“Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chipsets feature our Adreno 220 GPU, capable of delivering an HD gaming experience that exceeds PS2 and original Xbox,” wrote Talluri in an article for Develop.

“Next year, Qualcomm’s integrated Adreno GPUs for Snapdragon will take mobile gaming a new level of console quality graphics for mobile devices, matching the gaming experience of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles,” he continued, “while at the same time consuming less power than current chipsets in the market.”

He also believes that the Snapdragon/Adreno chipset is now one of the biggest players in gaming full stop: “With Snapdragon powering the majority of Android devices, all Windows Phone 7 devices, all HP webOS devices and supporting BlackBerry, the platform is arguably now one of the largest worldwide for gaming.”

Certainly, mobile graphic performance has improved unbelievably over the course of the last couple of years, but whether we’ll all be packing away our home consoles in favour of mobile devices remains to be seen.

E' arrivato davvero il momento di TimeSplitters 4?

http://www.connectedconsoles.com/blog/opm-rumour-claims-new-timesplitters-title-to-be-announced-soon/3988/

A fourth title within popular shooter franchise TimeSplitters may be set for announcement soon, according to the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK.

The 'Rumour Machine' page in the magazine's September 2011 outing states, “Gun-wielding monkeys are making a comeback! A fourth TimeSplitters title is to be announced soon.”

2005’s TimeSplitters: Future Perfect was the last title from the series to launch, and although a fourth was thought to be in development in 2007 at Free Radical, a spell in administration for the studio before its purchase by Crytek killed any hopes for the game at that point.

Crytek boss Cevat Yerli has since confirmed the developer’s interest in bringing the franchise to the current generation of consoles, and just last month it was claimed TimeSplitters 4 is being aimed for release on the next Xbox. Whatever’s going on, we’re interested.

Epic President: 'What's The Point of Next-Gen Consoles?'

Nintendo's Wii U will launch sometime next year, and rumors continue to circulate that a new Xbox or PlayStation could follow one or two years after Wii U. The Wii U is reportedly a bit more powerful than either the Xbox 360 or PS3, but when a PS4 or Xbox 720 hits the market, those machines will no doubt be even more powerful. In a sense though, none of this even matters anymore. Mobile could effectively replace consoles by then, if you ask Epic Games President Mike Capps.

"Your iPhone 8 will probably wirelessly connect to your television set to give you that big screen gaming experience... So really, what's the point of those next-gen consoles?"

"As a middleware provider and as a game developer it sure would be nice if all the different platforms were really similar for us – it would make it easier to work between them with maybe just a few differentiating features we could take advantage of. I'd hate to say that the Wii U is late; in fact, you could almost argue that it's early," Capps began. "They're aiming for a point beyond the current generation – they're just not leapfrogging it. One can certainly envision a future a couple years down the road where we have some significantly leapfrogged generation and then the Wii U again becomes a system that's not easily portable between the other platforms. But honestly, I think the bigger challenge for us is mobile."

Capps believes that the rate of technological progress in smartphones and tablets is completely changing the industry. By the time the next generation of consoles gets into full gear, we'll have smartphones that are probably even more powerful than today's Xbox 360.

"Before the problem was between the consoles and PC where they had very different levels. The power of your PC could be 100 times the power of somebody else's PC. This time the problem could be mobile. If you look at the ridiculous acceleration of iPhone hardware and technology, trying to find a sweet spot for tech to make your mobile game... I mean, what would your mobile game look like in 2015? Who knows how fast that's going to operate, but you can bet it's going to be faster than an Xbox 360," he said.

"So I think that's the real challenge for us now, rather than worrying about the difference between a couple consoles and some order of magnitude, whether 3X or 4X. It's about how do we deal with iPhone 8... if you watch where the gamers are going that's where they are. Your iPhone 8 will probably plug into your TV, or better yet, wirelessly connect to your television set to give you that big screen gaming experience with good sound. So really, what's the point of those next-gen consoles? It's a very interesting situation to be looking at. That's what we're starting to think about more... not how do we scale from some Nintendo platform to some other future console," he concluded.

Capps has been talking up mobile's impact on the industry for some time now, previously discussing his fears that 99-cent apps are killing traditional gaming and that triple-A titles like Gears of War could be harmed by the App Store.

Update: It's worth noting that connecting up an iPad for use as a gaming controller on a big screen TV (a la the Wii U tablet) is already possible with Apple TV and AirPlay. Lag can be a problem, but the kinks will no doubt continue to be ironed out with future hardware.

id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead believes that extended console cycles are actually good for everyone.

I think extended console cycles are actually good for everyone. I think they’re good for consumers and good for developers. As much as a new console will excite everyone about its technical gee-wizardry, your worst economic period is often the very first year of a new console. Install bases aren’t there, you’re selling lower units of games, people are having to pay $600-$700 for a console as opposed to $200-$300. And the first games to come out are among the least technically compelling, because there’s just such a rush to get stuff out for launch. Those are the reasons in my mind.

Carmack: Doom 4 Is So Big It May Not Fit On PS3 Bluray Discs

John Carmack of id Software warns that Doom 4 is likely to contain so much data that it may not fit on discs, not even Bluray.

In an interview at Quakecon, Carmack was asked whether the Rage PC demo on show was using the Super Texture pack that will be released in the future, and whether Doom 4 would utilise these updated graphics. His answer was the following (Turkish translation):

The videos are just using the normal game data. There is a decent chance we will fill more data than the PS3 and Blu-Ray DVDs for we ship on Doom 4, but we will have to see how much trouble it is maintaining two complete builds of the data. I would love to let the PC stream over the net when needed an extra detail, but the server and bandwidth that would take a significant commitment that I'm not sure we can make.

If this is the case, we may have to wait for Doom 4 on the next-gen of consoles as they will presumably use discs with a much bigger storage.

As a side note, Carmack also shows a willing to make a Rage 2 in the same interview. For now, Rage will be released October 4th, and for those PC players after those sexy textures, expect the Super Texture Pack sometime afterwards.
Andiamo bene... :patpat:

Fake per me //content.invisioncic.com/a283374/emoticons/sisi.gif
