Hold off on updating you PlayStation Vita’s, or at least do so on your own risk. The latest update — Version 3.57 — that went live on January 20 has been causing some major turbulence across PlayStation communities. According to PlayStation’s Support site, the update’s purpose was to remove Facebook functionality on PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV. However, many Vita users are reporting that they aren’t able to use online services (PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store) and are having battery draining issues.
This isn’t just a small collection of users — hundreds Vita users are rallying to the official PlayStation Forums creating multiple threads, while others are crying out on Reddit and NeoGAF. There is no indication one way of the other how many people updating are having these issues. Sony still hasn’t made a comment about the recent problems, but no doubt they are scrambling behind the scenes to come up with a solution. In the meantime, be wary of updating your PlayStation Vita — DualShockers will keep you updated when a remedy becomes available.
